“Quiet & comfortable”
Reviewed 5 March 2013 via mobile

Just had an overnight stay in York & really pleased we chose Marmadukes. There was off street parking and the hotel was in a quiet location but only 5 minutes walk to the minster & shops.
Breakfast was delicious and the staff were really friendly. We would chose to stay there again.

Having stayed at Marmadukes this weekend, I only have positive feedback. The hotel is well positioned in a quiet road, only a short walk from the city walls.
This was our 2nd stay at the Hotel, both visits have been fantasitc. We stayed in the York suite both times, which is very spacious, well equipped and clean and has been furnished in keeping with the high quality spec of the rest of the Hotel.
I'm a frequent traveller both for Business in the Uk and on Holidays abroad and I would fully recommend Marmadukes as a place to stay

Having just returned from a two night stay at this hotel and now read some of the feedback on Tripadvisor I am very surprised by the negative comments. I have staid at Marmaduke at least 3 times now and every visit has been a success. I have staid in a variety of different rooms, from the small, but good value, one bed room to a very plush four poster room. The rooms all have individual character with many original Victorian features which in my mind makes them special. It is a little bit like visiting your well to do relatives in Victorian times and a real home from home. The staff have always been friendly and efficient and the home cooked breakfast is lovely with something for everyone. The communal drawing room especially is beautiful and a perfect place for an aperitif before heading into town. York town centre is about a 15 minute walk away, but it is an easy walk and one of the great benefits of Marmaduke's location is that it is in a residential and therefore quiet street. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Because of the different character of the rooms some only have a bath and some only have a shower. M...

My husband and l stayed for two nights from Sunday at this hotel. We had read the description and found the hotel as described. Yes the furniture is a little tired but that is part of its ambience. The staff were fantastic and certainly were helpful and gave good advice on things to see and do and certainly knew what they were talking about. The Hotel is Victorian and they have lovingly kept it in that time. The Chandeliers are fantastic! This hotel only supplies breafast, but what a breakfast. We were told to try the Guy Fawkes Hotel or the Lamb and Lion just 10 minuttes walk away for dinner. Although we did not eat in the Lamb and Lion ( We were to late) we did eat in the other one. The service and food was extremely good. All in all l can highly recommend this hotel and would like to thank all the staff for an enjoyable stay

Room Tip: We were in a four poster room with a large en-suite.

Fabulous hotel and Marmadikes is a genuine boutique hotel. Good location, friendly staff. Room was beautiful and decorated in keeping with the hotel.

We travel around the UK a lot and this is the nicest boutiques hotel we
have stayed in. Highly recommended for couple who want a luxury break.

We stayed in the Four Poster Room with a beautiful, large bathroom with a victorian roll top bath. Extremely comfortable and luxurious.

Only downside is that we had to pay for parking, which considering it was on site was a bit odd.

Room Tip: The Four Poster room is loveley with a Roll top batch. Not practical if you only want a shower thoug...

We took advantage of the email offer of lunch, bed and breakfast on a cold Friday in February. The hotel is a little gem about 10 minute walk from the centre of York. Each member of staff we met was helpful and lovely. The room, we went for a four poster, was beautiful and very quiet. Although there wasn't a shower the bathroom was huge with a lovely old fashioned roll top bath and plenty of hot water. We went to the Guy Faulkes, a sister hotel near the Minster, for lunch and it was amazing. The waiter was wonderful and took time to answer all our queries and find out information from the chef. The food was simple but delicious. I can see why the pies are famous. There was a big choice for breakfast and everything was cooked to perfection. All in all we had a lovely break and will definitely go back to Marmadukes!

Stayed two nights at this hotel last week, February 2013. A well situated hotel, only an 8 minute walk to the York Minster. The hotel is comfortable and well furnished with an Edwardian feel to it. The room we had was in the attic area, it was quite small with only limited wardrobe space but very comfortable. It had a large en suite bathroom but did not have a shower, should you require a shower facility then it can be requested and if available the staff will accommodate. We will return to this hotel but next time I would know to request a room with a shower.
The staff are lovely and friendly.
Parking is limited and we were asked to leave our car keys with reception in case our car needed to be moved, this was not a problem.
The hotel only does breakfast but this was very good and had plenty choice.

Room Tip: Request a room with a shower.
