We stayed at Marmadukes on a dinner bed and breakfast deal. Our deluxe room was not huge but characterful with some nice antique pieces. The bathroom was good with a powerful over bath shower. Sadly the mirror over the sink must have been put up by a man as I could only just see the top of my head! Marmadukes does not do dinner so we took a taxi to the Lamb and Lion (see separate review) breakfast though was tasty and set us up for the day. We did have minor quibbles but these were dealt with efficiently by the friendly staff who seemed genuinely eager to please.

Thank you for taking the time and placing a review on here for Marmadukes Town House Hotel.

Not one bedroom is the same here at Marmadukes and not one piece of furniture is the same, which does create a wonderful character for the hotel. However an oddly situated mirror does not sound great, please can you email me so I can locate this?

I am pleased you found us all friendly and efficient.

I hope to see you back here very soon and thank you once again.

Kind Regards

We stayed here for one night on 29th July in a deluxe room for £89. We arrived at the hotel at about 1pm which we knew was to early for our room but we checked in and got the paperwork out of the way. The receptionist was very friendly and informative and he even have us a map of York and a couple of recommendations of what to see. The location of the hotel is great, it took about 10mins to walk into the centre and we spent the afternoon exploring. We returned at about 6pm and were shown to our room, we were offered help with out luggage but this wasn't needed. The room was lovely. It was spacious with a nice big bed and a lovely bathroom. The bathroom had a nice big bath in which took no time in filling with hot water. We went out for dinner and drinks and returned at about 9pm. The hotel was nice and quiet and we had a good nights sleep in the comfy bed. Breakfast was lovely. I had eggs and soldiers and the eggs were perfectly cooked with big soldiers smothered in butter, perfect. We had a look into the bar and lounge area which looked lovely although we didn't use. Overall we had a fab stay. The staff were all very polite and friendly and the hotel is charming

Thank you for taking the time and placing an amazing Five Star review.

We ae always happy for any guest to register early, at least you can complete all the necessaries and get off exploring York, especially if you have booked car parking with us.

Here at Marmadukes Town House Hotel you cannot be more perfectly situated as we are positioned in a lovely quiet grove amongst beautiful avenue of trees, we are only 10 minutes walking distance away from the city walls and near to all of York’s City Centre Attractions.

I am so pleased to read that you had a good night’s sleep followed by an enjoyable breakfast. Your kind comments regarding our team or also greatly appreciated.

We will all look forward to you returning back to us.

Kindest Regards

My husband and I stayed here for one night on 27th July as we were attending a wedding. From when we arrived the service was great and the reception staff extremely polite and helpful. The room was lovely with its classic antique decor and was also very clean.
There was a slight delay in having our order taken at breakfast but that was due to the hotel being busy.
I would definitely recommend and would book again.

Stayed here 27th July in room 505 was pleasantly surprised to see we had a balcony which was great with the weather being so lovely. Staff here are very helpful and polite. Our room had a four poster bed and a large deep bath (do be careful with the water temperature-it did get very hot!) down side to our stay was the wifi connection this needs to be improved for a higher rating. Breakfast included with price of room also. Very enjoyable stay and would return here especially as town centre is around 10 minute walk away :)

Thank you for taking the time and writing a lovely tripadvisor review.

I am pleased to read that you were pleasantly surprised by our balcony which certainly is a lovely addition to our Four Poster Room. We are also pleased to read that all of our team here were helpful.

I am a little surprised by your temperature comment regarding the water, I have had our maintenance team have a look at this, but the issue you mentioned has not happened again, we will keep a close eye on this.

We are excellent location and only being 10 minutes away from the city walls, perfect for shopping and visiting our lovely museums.

Kind Regards

Had a lovely stay for four nights with two friends in adjoining four poster bedrooms. The rooms are lovely, the location is good, and the staff really could not be faulted - they went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable, always with a smile and friendly efficiency.
The only criticisms are relatively minor:
The rolltop baths look lovely, but it is a bit of a palaver having a shower in them, and this get annoying after a few days. Having said that, we were given the option when booking to try and get 'downgraded' to standard rooms which do have showers.
The wifi did not work in either of our rooms (501 and 502), apart from a brief spell at the beginning. We told the staff a couple of times and each time they were very helpful about restarting the router etc, but it just didn't work.
The only other point was that at £166 per room per night (given the above points), I thought it was rather overpriced. Of course it was a very popular time of the year.
All in all a lovely hotel, espcially for one or two nights, but I probably wouldn't stay again, simply because I have already enjoyed the lovely old furniture etc and would probably look for something more all-round comfortable next time I visit York.

Thank you for taking the time and writing your review.

Thank you for our lovely staff mention and we do all we can so you enjoy your stay with us. Unfortunately our roll top baths do have shower attachments but using as a shower can be limited, all of our Four Posters have roll tops so if you do require a shower please book either our Executives, Deluxe, York or Loft Suite and please request at time of booking.

We did have a couple of intermittent Wi-Fi issues over this weekend and subsequently to this weekend we have had a boost installed in this side of the building so hopefully future guests will not encounter this problem.

Our Sales & Revenue Manger ensures daily we are competitively priced for the York market, and I am afraid York can command fairly high prices.

I hope you do change your mind and decide to come back to us. If or when any of our guests advise us of their requests or issues we rectify as soon as possible and will always do what we can for you. We are passionate about our Hotel and we will always aim as high as we can to deliver.

Kind Regards

Lucy Neville

Quite easy to find, off the A19 north of the city centre. A very pleasant setting within walking distance of the centre, fairly quiet, with a tree lined avenue.

We had a four poster room (505), with a very nice balcony over looking the trees at the front. It was very hot when we arrived, so it was good to sit out there, lovely in the morning for a cup of tea: although in fact there was nowhere else to sit in the room anyway, other than on the bed. The room had a good bath, but only a hand shower over it and you need to be careful with the hot/cold controls.

Wifi was intermittent in the room and could not get it most of the time on the ipad. Not good enough in this day and age. A friendly receptionist, who in the end offered to help my wife who was struggling with bags.

The main building has a couple of nice lounges and the receptionist offered to serve drinks, but there was no food on offer on the Friday night when we were there. However, a walk down the road into the city centre gives you a world of choice.

The English breakfast in the morning was freshly cooked and good quality. Friendly servers.

Overall it was a very good stay, convenient for York.

Room Tip: The room we had chosen was 505 and the balcony was superb, assuming of course the weather is good

Thank you for taking the time and placing your review for Marmadukes Town House Hotel.

Room 505 our lovely Four Poster Room has an amazing balcony, which is just what you need on a hot summers day.

I am sorry you encountered Wi-Fi issues, this weekend we did have a couple of comments and since this weekend we have had a booster installed in our building so hopefully this will not affect our future guests.

We have two lovely lounges to enjoy your morning coffee and read your newspaper in.
Thank you for your lovely comments regarding our team here and our breakfast to start your busy day off.
