“Weekend at Burswood Guest House”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 March 2012

We had a wonderful stay at this very pretty guest house where from arriving the owner Mr George Lewis couldn't have been more welcoming. Our room was spotlessly clean with every single amenity you could wish for breakfast was excellent with plenty of choices set in a beautiful garden room plus very well positioned to get in and out of York easily bus stop just outside the guest house with very frequent buses. We would not hesitate to recommend Burswood to anyone and will definately be staying there again.

I chose this B&B based on the strength of the reviews on TripAdvisor. The number of reviews are testament to how good this place is. Situated a good 30 minute walk from the city centre, Burswood is just opposite the racecourse with easy bus access to the city if you don't fancy the walk.

We stayed in the Garden room which was accessed by going outside the main property. A lovely, very quiet room with a king sized double bed, very comfortable duvet and pillows, and all the nice little amenities that add an extra touch such as bathrobes, slippers, fresh milk in the fridge and beautiful fluffy white towels. The room was very clean and welcoming, although the decor was a little on the fussy side. The breakfast room was bright and nicely presented, and wow - the breakfast was fantastic, fresh, and just delicious.

The location was OK, a bit out of town which was fine for us as we didn't mind walking. There is a very charming pub next door called the Fox and Roman which did a lovely dinner.

All in all, I would definitely recommend the Burswood - we only stayed for one night, but we found it very welcoming and a nice alternative to an impersonal chain hotel. I have given it four stars purely for the fact that I think it was a little pricey and they could have gone a step further with their more expensive rooms - I stayed in a similar place run by a couple in Dartmoor that provided us with the option of champagne and chocolates on arrival and cocktails in the evening.... Considering that the Burswood isn't very central what we paid did seem a lot. That said, I would probably stay here again, just maybe in a cheaper room.

Visited York to attend a wedding reception and enjoyed a few drinks in the centre beforehand.York is a beautiful city with vibrant nightlife, went to the 'stone roses' club later on,a cool club that plays great music.
Asn for the 'Burswood',we were made very welcome, nice room with en suite, good breakfast and on one of the main routes into the city, all round good value,no complaints whatsoeveer, would happily recommend it.

Room Tip: always use sites like 'tripadvisor',they dont lie !

Burswood Guest House is a well-situated, well-managed, and highly-regarded B&B that will not let your hopes down.

Being only a one night stay on this occasion, our thoughts throughout fell upon the level of pride in detail that flourished everywhere around the house. From fresh hand-picked flower bouquets in the floral-themed bedrooms and endearing dining conservatory, to the complementary milk and bottles of water in the bedroom fridge on your arrival, as well as free wi-fi, an extensive library of information booklets on York and the surrounding area, good parking facilities, and a highly commended pub neighbouring the house, Burswood offers everything a guest could want.

The entire house and garden is kept to a very high standard - with our room (on the first floor) being particularly bright and cheery. The breakfast offered a great array of freshly prepared fruit and cereals, followed by a fantastic home-cooked breakfast tailored to your liking.

It proved difficult not to mention the owners, George and Maureen, so far in this review. Although Maureen was not present, George was certainly the icing on the cake for Burswood - with his welcoming nature, very capable hand in the kitchen, and informative knowledge on York.

You would be hard-pushed to find a hotel in York with better character and service (and value for money!) than Burswood Guest House. We certainly look forward to our next visit to this well-established B&B.

What can I say that hasn't already been said, this is the best B&B I’ve stayed in and considering I did security for 9 years up & down the country I’ve stayed in a few. The rooms were spotless and George was fantastic, when we first arrived he asked me how tall I was and when I told him I was 6'8" he said the room that we had booked had a bed with a foot board and therefore offered us a room where the bed did not. I know that’s a small thing but it’s the attention to detail that makes this place so good and the breakfast absolutely spot on, all that’s left to be said is that if you don’t like this B&B then you should never leave home.

this guest house was far superior than a five star hotel. The attention to detail was second to none, right down to the flowers in the room, the crystal glasses, the extra touches in the room fridge.........excellent.

You will not find a better place to stay in York.
Great service excellent quality of breakfast all locally sourced
Both hosts George and Maureen made us very welcome and ensured our brief stay was an excellent one.Care to detail is a theme running throughout this establishment e.g. A single red rose and heart shaped chocolate with breakfast on Valentine Day
