“Very Good option in York”

This B & B offers friendly service, a good location and clean rooms. As other reviewers have noted, the rooms are small but this is definitely a good choice in York. Would stay there again.

Brilliant location. My room was spotless and the décor was fresh and relaxing. Fabulous facilities. brilliant service. Good breakfast menu. Would recommend to all. Nice atmosphere. Beautiful garden.

Room Tip: Choose the superior room, bathroom large and spacious. My god the shower was excellent.

I wouldn't describe this B and B as anything special, it was just OK really. The service was very good, but it did seem like it needed sprucing up a bit upstairs. The standard family room was very very small, and was basically a room with a double bed with a slither of gap down either side, although they had somehow managed to wedge a travel cot on one side between the bed and the wall. From a health and safety point of view it could have been a nightmare, as our 20month old daughter could have easily simply stood up in the cot and pulled the kettle down on top of her, as it was dangerously situated on a shelf above.

However, when I queried this, the receptionist/manager was very accomodating and offered an upgrade to a 'superior family room' for another £10 a night. Which was fair enough.

The 'superior' room was better, but it wasn't exactly luxurious with the decor being a bit out of date, and the carpets needed replacing as they looked a bit haggered. The curtains wouldn't quite shut properly either, but the blackout blinds meant this wasn't an issue. The room was quite cold aswell, but with three of us in there it soon warmed up. I'm guessing the room hadn't been used for a while and they just turned the heating off.

The bathroom was very clean, and quite spacious. Unfortunately the 'double bed' was two singles pushed together so the double sheet wouldn't fit properly. So after a couple of hours sleep we ended up just sleeping on a bare mattress and the sheet being tangled around our feet, which was quite annoying.

The breakfast was average, but certainly very satisfactory. The whole downstairs area was nicely kept and very welcoming, it's just upstairs needs redecorating like I said.

Cannot fault the service though, they were very welcoming. The location was ideal for us, just off the river and a lovely 10 minute walk into the town centre. They were also very understanding of our needs with a pram, told us the best way to get down to the river to avoid steps, and told us good places to visit/eat etc.

Overall I'd say perhaps slightly overpriced based on the quality of the rooms, but I would also always say that you can't put a price on good customer service and general helpfulness.

Room Tip: Do not go for the standard room

We arrived in York, without booking a room anywhere and noticed The Priory as we drove along the road. We rang from the car and were offered their last room. We were met with a very warm welcome and the girl behind the desk was really friendly. The room was very small at £80 for the night but was well furnished, comfortable and clean. We went out for the evening but had a drink in the lounge when we returned and it was nice to chat with other guests. The breakfast was excellent. We enjoyed our one night stay at the Priory and would stay there again, but we would book to ensure we got a bigger room. Before we left we wanted to go shopping and we were told we could leave our car in the hotel car park which was brilliant as parking in York city centre costs about £2 an hour. A very friendly atmosphere!

Stayed overnight with a friend who has a dog and he'd found the details in a directory of "dog friendly" hotels. We had the warmest and friendliest of greetings and the girl couldn't been more helpful about the best way to walk into the city with a dog. The room was a twin room at the front of the hotel looking on to a busy road, but I have to say the noise was never and issue. It was clean and comfortable - we all three slept very well and enjoyed a lovley fresh cooked breakfast. Good value for money and truly "dog freindly". All staff were polite and friendly and helpful.

We were really happy with our stay at the Priory. Our room was small but nicely decorated and clean with a very comfortable bed. (The pillows could stand to be replaced, though, as they were pretty flat.) we overlooked the garden on the first floor and it was very quiet. We enjoyed using the lounge and found the staff to be very friendly. The location is great - an easy walk into the centre of York and very easy to find when you first arrive in the city. We'd stay again.

we were a bit concerned about the apparent lack of parking, but we neednt have worried, there was plenty of parking all the time we were there.
Its more of a guest house than a hotel, but we were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our room, which was spacious and clean, as we were on the top floor the shower hadnt got much oomph, but we were only in it for one night, and then transferred to the family suite, it was fine and clean, but the decor in the both bedroooms and bathromm was a bit tired, and could do with an update. This may be an ongoing operation as the first room we were in was newly decorated.
The breakfasts were okay, my daughter had pancakes a couple of mornings and they were undercooked, and were replaced without a problem, the other cooked food was fine.
they have a Wi in the bar which we played most nights, and there are two computers in the bar which are free to residents, we also had free wifi which was quite fast.
All in all we had no complaints and would go back without a second thought, but they do need to decorate the bedrooms and bathrooms.
