Great weekend stay as always and a very reasonable £50 for bed and breakfast. Special offer Sunday to Thursday. Room 2 had been newly decorated and staff were extremely helpful as always. A lovely stay.

Room Tip: No 2 is large

Was visiting friends in York in the evening so was looking for a place to have lunch. Just outside the city walls I found a lovely looking pub on The Gillygate
On entering the pub I was welcomed by what I think was the owner 'Eric' He gave me and my friend a lovely welcome Me and my friend were starving so Eric recommended the Steak and Ale pie
And I have to say its the best I've ever tasted
Returned again recently and stayed over for b&b and once again staff and service are spot on! Looking forward to returning soon

My most favourite pub in York. We always stay here if we can get in, the rooms are clean and cosy. The food is gorgeous, proper homemade pub grub, and the bar always has a real fire in the winter. You could easily spend the day here with your papers, in front of the fire with a nice glass of wine!

Stayed the one night in room 6 up in the attic. Had to climb over laundry and linen bags to get into our room.
It needed a good clean and sort out (wardrobe door falling off). Dusty dirty television top and surfaces. A lot of traffic noise and drunken passers by, even the dustbin lorry arrived at 4.50 a.m. outside our window.
The staff were friendly, but a disappointing breakfast ( one teapot between four of us, hardly anY choice of cereals and a miserable microwave so called "Full English"
WOULD NOT RETURN.

Room Tip: Go to the Premier Inn instead

Stayed one night on our way from Scotland to Kent. Fantastic hotel! When we arrived the barman was very helpful (even asked if we needed help to bring our bags in from car), showed us to our rooms and was a great host throughout the night. Location is excellent, very close to city centre, food was great and rooms were comfortable, clean and adequate.
Only negative comment was that as we stayed on a Friday night pub clientele were very noisy until about 3am. (but this was to be expected staying in a pub) Would definiltely stay there again.
