“Good beer, food and feline company”
Reviewed 30 May 2014

Only ate here. Good conditioned pint of Taylors Landlord; had the tempura prawns followed by ham, leek and chicken pie (a proper pie) with a good portion of veg and cauliflower cheese. Kept company by the delightful ginger cat Tom. Would have been a five but the place only has those dreadful sachets of sauces and I could not use the gents just after closing time as they were closed for cleaning though I thought there was a 20 minute drinking up time. Pleasant staff and the place has a lovely atmosphere.

Hello
Thank you for taking the time to review us on tripadvisor, we have not responded before now as we have only just found these reviews, we get them on two separate sections of tripadvisor and we were not aware of this before now.

I am glad you enjoyed your 'proper' pie, we have them hand made at a wonderful shop in the Shambles in York. They sell out so quickly every time we put them on the menu.

The dreaded sachets! You are right, we totally agree, they are YUK, and (prompted by a couple of reviews including yours) you will be pleased to hear, we are getting RID! So thank you. We are going to revert back to the little ceramic pots we used to use - they look a lot more 'posh'.

So glad you liked our Tom! Everybody loves him, he is spoilt rotten. Am putting in for his job next time!

Best wishes and hope to see you again soon.
Sue

My husband and I love York and were very pleased with The Plough as our choice of accommodation. On arrival we were met by pleasant staff and shown to our room. I believe all rooms are decorated in individual styles and if going by ours they will be of a high standard, beautifully decorated, comfy beds and most of all very clean. We also ate at The Plough even though York itself offers fab places to eat, but why go elsewhere when again the standard is high and such good service. Plus the added extra of Tom the resident cat who is lovely. Would I recommend yes. A quick note :You can walk from The Plough approx. 40 mins along the river to the inner of York but there is a very good bus service right outside.

Hello
A belated and huge thank you for the lovely review you posted for us in May. We have recently discovered that there are two sections on Tripadvisor that holds reviews for us, we were only aware of one initially.

It is lovely to read your very appreciative comments, particularly on the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms. We really have put so much effort and thought into each room so it's great when we know it has been noticed. Thank you also for your praise on our customer service, they really are a 'cracking' bunch and they all work so hard.

Tom is just as lovely (and lazy!) and everyone seems to like him a lot!

Hope to see you again, many thanks
Sue

Hello there

Thank you for the kind review you posted for us in May! We have only just found these reviews on Tripadvisor (unbeknownst to us, our reviews were going onto two separate sections) but still wanted to thank you for taking the time to compliment us on our new B&B.

We are all really enjoying our involvement with so many lovely guests, especially if they like Tom. He gets mentioned by name in so many reviews, you are right he is very famous now and quite the celebrity!

Hope to see you again soon

We booked three nights here while my husband was working in York. The great service started even before our arrival, by way of a text asking if we would like to have some food kept warm as we were arriving after the kitchen had closed. A table reserved for us in the bar, a tour of the wonderful sumptuous bedrooms and then a fabulous meal served in the bar (which has a great atmosphere). The rooms are decorated to a very high standard and its clear that all the staff without exception put their heart and soul into making everyone's stay comfortable. Nothing is too much trouble (my husband even had a little tray of goodies to take away for breakfast as he had an early start!) Forget big chain hotels, The Plough Inn provides so much more than we expected that we are planning next trip already! Many thanks to all the Plough staff!

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautiful!

A huge thank you for your wonderful review on Tripadvisor, I can remember your visit and your husband having to go off early in the morning to work. I hope he ate his breakfast!

I am glad you both enjoyed your stay with us and would have thanked you before now for taking the time to review us but we have only just recently discovered this batch of reviews.

Thank you again and hopefully see you again soon

Stopped here for a weekend at bank holiday we go to york at least 3 to 4 times a year and I can honestly say will never stay in the town centre again, everything about this place is lovely the attention to detail in the rooms is superb the little touches are great including the little packs in the bathroom with shower cap and cotton wool pads, they have thought of everything I didn't actually want to leave the room. Had food in the restaurant on the second night me and my husband both had steaks and compliments to the chef they were cooked to perfection.0verall our stay was perfect all the staff are great joolz was great at breakfast and debs the cleaner was great thanks for a lovely stay will be back soon.

Hello there and a big belated thank you for your fantastic feedback and for taking the time to rate us on Tripadvisor. We only recently found these reviews as they go into two different sections on their review site, one of which we weren't aware of until now.

We are delighted to see that you really enjoyed your stay with us, it really matters to us that we are getting it right and that our guests leave us with a desire to return - we can't ask for more than that. Thank you.

Hope to see you again soon and best wishes

Booked here for an overnight shopping break with the girls. Great location, left the car and caught the park & ride bus into York for shopping, food & drink. Our 2 rooms were beautifully decorated to a very high standard, nice and clean, bathrooms all new and beds very comfy. The staff are lovely and friendly treating you like their friends. Good choice of breakfast and all freshly cooked. Would definitely go back either with the girls or with my other half.

Booked one of the double rooms for my girlfriends birthday and it was absolutely amazing, the quality of everything was beyond expectation and you can really tell these guys take great pride in the place. It had a real English pub feel to it downstairs and the room was very luxurious and the best quality place I have ever stayed.

I asked for a few extra things to add some romance to our stay and the owners went above and beyond for me and provided brilliant customer service every step of the way.

The food was brilliant, the service couldn't be better, our room was beyond beautiful and my girlfriend had an amazing time. I cannot say any more than I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone who visits York or fancies a trip away as it was absolutely perfect and everything I wanted.

If we go to York again in the future this is the only place I will be staying.

Room Tip: Our double single room was brilliant! Showers are awesome.

Hello there
This is belated as I did not realise we had reviews stored on two separate sections of tripadvisor!
Your review was amazing and we are so glad that you and your girlfriend enjoyed it, we love it when people really appreciate what we have done here. Thanks for posting that for us and we look forward to looking after you again soon.
