“Cosy cottage in the heart of the City”

We had a lovely mini-break in York and Miller's cottage is a unique base right in the heart of this grand old town with all it's well documented attractions literally on the door step. The cottage is effectively a detached home (in so much that there are no other homes nearby) with a parking space. It's snug and homely and was deceptively spacious. We had one or two minor quibbles - eg a lamp in the lounge didn't work; also at especially busy times in the Yard I can imagine noise from the locality could be intrusive. However we had two untroubled night's sleep. We will definitely be back and have recommended the cottage to other family members.

“Great place to stay”
Reviewed 10 November 2016 for a stay in November 2016

I've stayed at Millers Cottage with my sister twice now. It's in an ideal location and is very cosy and comfortable. Dylan is a good, caring host too. We hope to be able to stay there again and again ..........

“Convenient to town centre but not so quiet”

On the plus side. Millers Cottage was clean, the beds are comfortable, the shower is hot and strong and a pleasure to use, and the kitchen is equipped with all the necessities for a short stay. Also, its central location means that all the York attractions, as well as some great cafes and pubs, are within a short walk. However, furnishings and amenities are of fairly basic quality, and the black plastic kettle needs to be replaced, as it has a calcification deposit around the pouring lip that is a bit off putting. The bathroom and kitchen are very small, so a longer stay with more than a couple would be testing. The biggest downside was that we did not find the location to be as quiet as advertised. The yard location does provide some protection from the bustle of Gillygate, but there is a hospital nearby so ambulance sirens continue into the early hours. The yard accommodates several alternative businesses alongside Millers Cottage, and between this, and the fact that pedestrians tend to use the yard as a shortcut between streets, there is some lack of privacy and activity in the yard late at night. If central location is a priority for you (and you are a good sleeper!), this apartment could be a good option for you. But if better quality furnishings, comfort and quiet are more important to you, then maybe this would not be the best choice.

Management Response

Thank you for your review and I'm sorry not everything was to your liking. The funrniture is exactly the same as in the photos, so I'm not sure what you were expecting and it's priced accordingly. You booked a city centre place close to all the attractions and the yard is one of the quietest spots in this area as its off the main road and sheltered from the hustle and bustle. As in the description the yard is shared space with a Health and wellbeing Centre. The public footpath means there's no traffic passing through but people will be passing through. I'm sorry about the sirens but that's out of our control but wherever you are in this area of York you will hear an ambulance at some point but they usually turn off their sirens by 9pm unless there's some traffic in the way. Hope these minor things didn't affect your vacation to much. Many thanks

“Central comfort with character”

Couldn't get more central than this - easy walking distance from all of York's attractions, comfortable accommodation in a location full of character. Loved it. Felt at home immediately with the apartment and all the facilities. Dylan was very welcoming and gave us lots of information and goodies - very generous. The only issue is parking - there's a lot of competition for parking space in this active and desirable location and not a lot of control although Dylan does his best. Nonetheless, the best place to stay when coming to York.

“Ideal cottage for your stay in York”
Reviewed 5 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

You're unlikely to find a better holiday let in York than Miller's Cottage. Perfect location with private parking in the heart of the city, yet away from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped. Dylan will ensure you have everything you need. Highly recommended.
