Reviewed 17 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

This was for my wife's 40th and everything was Fantastic. Large area for us all to sit and very clean and Tidy. would highly recommended this for anyone going to York as close to station and a small walk into the city centre. Excellent.

“Pretty perfect location, pretty perfect house”

Booked easily via direct contact with the owner. No deposit, no bother. Price may seem a little high at first, but as we were two families sharing, a rate of £65 per family per night actually worked out cheaper than a hotel. What do you get for it?

Well, outside space, a nice lounge, a well appointed kitchen and several bedrooms.
The layout of rooms is a little unusual perhaps, with a single, very spacious en-suite double on the ground floor. Then, on the 1st floor, a lounge-diner, and - on the opposite side of the stairs - the kitchen (with enough extra room for sitting at a small table, very useful!).
Finally, on the 2nd floor, there's a double en-suite, a twin (not en-suite) and single, plus a nice family bathroom. Both the en-suites have a shower and were pretty clean, apart from a little bit of mould gathering in the corners and shower head of the 2nd floor one.

With two small children, it was lovely to have the lounge/dining area for them to bustle around, but with the steep stairs around, they did need some supervision when moving between rooms.

House is on an estate which takes a little bit of navigating to get in or out of, Parking is fine, provided you keep cars on the drive or in the garage (which is very low and tight, so probably wouldn't fit a big 4x4 or people-carrier), and whilst it's close to the rail lines, there isn't that much noise - the only noticiable distraction being a whirr from some sort of utility building out at the back which goes on through the night and can be heard from the single bedroom - so stick any REALLY light sleepers in the twin or double. For normal folks used to the noise of the city, it was lovely and quiet.

Location is lovely, about 5 minutes from the rail museum, 7-8 minutes from the city walls, shops aren't too far off, maybe 5 minutes going away from town, or there are plenty larger ones a short drive away.

The only noticable problems were the dishwasher, which kept on dropping bits of the top-shelf mechanism everywhere, the lack of any sort of 'welcome booklet', so we had to largely guess how to get the radiators to come on (for reference, 2nd floor bathroom, cupboard, press 'Advance'), and - as mentioned above - an upstairs shower that needed a scrub in the corners.
(I'd also suggest providing a jug, slightly bigger mugs and bigger towels, but that's just being fussy!)

Otherwise, a terrific place to stay, and wonderful to return to at the end of each day.
