Description: The National Trust's Middlethorpe Hall, is a William III country house close to the city of York set in 20 acres of its own gardens and parkland. Built in 1699, it was once the home of the famous diarist. Lady Mary Wortley Montagu. After a period of neglect, the Hall was sympathetically restored with decorations, antiques and pictures carefully chosen as consistent with the period of the house. The panelled dining rooms overlooking the gardens and the imaginative food designed by Head Chef Nicholas Evans, much prasied in all the guide books, follows the hotel's theme of traditional excellence.Afternoon Tea is served daily in the C18th Drawing Room and 'Al-Fresco' dining is available to be taken on the south facing terrace.

We spent a delightful afternoon here after a morning shopping trip, it was a beautiful summers afternoon so we had Afternoon Tea on the terrace. A wonderful tranquil setting. The service was excellent, very attentive without being over-fussy. If you want an afternoon treat, this is simply perfection.

this was one of our favourite York restaurants; however the restaurant is not moving with the times, very formal and pretentious move on guys even three starred Michelin are more relaxed. Food is very good though!!!

Our Chefs work hard to produce food of high quality and standards and we are pleased that this has been recognised by this guest.

We believe that our style of service is friendly, unobtrusive and consistent with the setting of a National Trust owned, William III country house.

Tradition and moving with the times is not always an easy balance to strike.

We had a great party for 40 in the Grill Room, with a delightful drinks reception in the attached lounge area.
The attentive service and the quality of the meal served at our luncheon party contributed so much to the success of our big event! We have since had many comments from our guests on the high standards experienced at Middlethorpe Hall.

We went to Middlethorpe Hall for a family birthday. We had a private dinning room that fitted the 15 of us comfortably. The food was very good but the menu was quite limited so not great for the children in the party. The wine list as actually larger than the menu and had some good choices, but all above £24, and it would have been nice to have the option of a more reasonably priced house wine.

After lunch we went and had a walk around the grounds which were lovely and acted as nice end to the afternoon.

From the minute you enter this fabulous hotel(the building of which is owned by the National Trust) your are treated as someone special. From the butler who greets you and takes you into lounge, the perfect service of the drinks waiter and to the exceptional restuarant staff.
The food is exceptional. Prior to the meal you are served appetizers which are delicious.
You are also offered several types of home made bread.
Eveing dinner is a most enjoyable and relaxing event.
