There have been many changes to other restaurants/cafes in York (too many national chains now) so it's always a pleasure to visit the Concerto and know exactly what you're getting. Breakfasts and lunches are always super (we have'nt tried an evening meal) but be prepared to wait a while at busy times. My brother complained last time about the delay and I had to remind him that he wasn't in Starbucks or Costa. The atmosphere is often feisty, particularly when groups of young women crank up, but as long as you're in the mood it's fine. Occasionally, you may need to send crockery back if it's less than 100% clean but it doesn't happen very often.

My 5 year old and I popped in on a Thursday afternoon around 4pm. Nice and quiet at this time.

Lovely atmosphere and décor.

We had a huge slice of carrot cake wish lashings of icing/topping; milk shake with blob of ice cream and a pit of tea.

Just lovely and a lovely spot near the Minster. Go!

The location of this restaurant is superb, within a few metres of the main door to York Minster in in a beautiful York street with the impressive Bootham bar close by
The restaurant is very quaint and staff very friendly.
The starters are reasonably priced one of our group had the fish cake with all the trimmings and the wild mushroom and garlic soup was enjoyed by others in the group.
The rib eye steak wiyh fresh vegetables and roasted potatoes was excellent done perfectly to our liking. The lamb shank was OK but not excellent.
The puddings were pricey but not anything special.
Irish coffee was nice. We had bottled Yorkshire black sheep ale - again a little pricey
All in all a good meal but slightly more than we would have expected to pay for this type of meal

This is a quaint little cafe/restaurant within a stones throw of the minster. We just popped in for lunch on the recommendation of our son who is currently studying at HYMS. One of the attractions is that they have a proper gluten free menu as my wife is coeliac. The gluten free croque mesiuer was by all accounts a success. The club ciabatta was excellent and the duck leg casserole was great. Not a chip in sight! Service was courteous. Recommended.

We have been going to Cafe Concerto for years and can honestly say we have never had a bad experience - the food is always lovely try the soup and sandwich duos and the puddings are gorgeous if you have room!! I took my cousin there at the weekend and she was really impressed by both the food and the staff who are always very friendly. Lovely atmosphere and quality food.
Well worth a visit and if you have to queue it really is worth the wait - Looking at other reviews looks like we've been missing out by not yet trying the breakfasts!!
