Was treated to a new years day stay having been here only a few weeks earlier in December!
Why do we keep returning? Simply becuse if you want a night away in a lovely room with gorgeous baths and amazing service then in York there is nowhere better. You are welcomed back and they actually know who you are. Nothing is too much trouble. From reception to the bar and on to the bistro the staff are top class and so friendly. O and they make amazing cocktails. Dave behind bar will be missed! Yes its a chain but York maintains its own cbaracter. Dont cbange!

We booked on their £109 per night all included special rate, so we concede the rate was cheap for dinner bed and breakfast, if we had not been on this cheap rate then we would have been really quite disapointed. The bathroom was the smallest I have ever had in a hotel and the room was not much bigger. We ate from the very small set menu on offer for this rate and the food was not great so we had to eat from the A La Carte the following evening (which was very good) We were in the Marques de Caceras room (right next to the lift) and there is a big problem with the floorboards we could hear every movement from the people in the room above.
To be honest wish we had paid full rate and got a better quieter and bigger room and just ate from A La Carte all nights. Be warned if you book on this special deal, probably you will be put in the worst room they have and the menu choice and quality is not great. On the plus side the hotel common areas are lovely and the staff were very friendly. Oh and nearly forgot, it is not a quick walk as they tell you into town, it is a good 20 minutes before you hit the first decent shop.

We booked the hotel for my wife's birthday and we were not disappointed!
From start to finish the service was 5 star, we were escorted to our suite, an ice bucket and glasses were provided on request.
We upgraded our room to a junior suite and it was lovely. There was a free standing bath at the window and it had the best shower that I havever had in a hotel and the biggest also.
The bed was so comfortable that we had a great 2 nights sleep. Coffee machine ,bose speakers everything was there that you needed.
If I was going to be picky the walls could have done with a freshen up as cracks where starting to appear on the walls and the sink could have been a bit cleaner but over all it did nt take away from the great stay we had.
We ate in the bistro the first night and the food from start to finish was excellent great flavours and portion sizes so you knew you had eaten but where not over full. The drink prices where in line with the style of place it was.
Overall we had a great stay from start to finish and would go back in a second,it was nt the cheapest but for a special occasion it was perfect!

Our recent one night stay was excellent. Room was perfect in every way. Very spacious, beautifully furnished and well equipped.
Service in all areas of the hotel was excellent. Choice and quality of food and wine in the Bistro was great. This was our third visit and I am sure we will return.

Lovely hotel in a good location - 15/20 min walk from town.
Large rooms (stayed in superior double) and luxurious bed which had clean sheets and comfy duvet and pillows.
Clean towels and dressing gowns available and good facilities in the room and bathroom (shower gel / cotton pads etc).

Downside - car park is £10, no idea why this can't be included in the hotel stay. TV should be mounted on the wall so you can view it at ease when you're in bed.
Breakfast price appeared costly at £14 per person so can't comment on the food, but nice to have a bar and restaurant downstairs

I've stayed at many of the Hotel du Vin hotels over the last few years and have always found them to be comfortable, stylish and welcoming. I like the fact that it's a reliable brand with the same good standards of quality and service whichever of the hotels you choose - please don't change a thing! We stayed at the York hotel last week and had possibly our best experience yet. We'd booked the Veuve Cliquot suite as we were there with our children and the suite itself was huge, comfortable and felt very luxurious. We had dinner there that night and couldn't fault both the service or the food, which was great. Breakfast the following morning was delicious too. The building was lovely, beautifully renovated and in a great location to explore the city. In fact this might be my favourite Hotel du Vin yet! Highly recommended!

We stayed here for two nights for a romantic break from the kids! We just had a standard room. But nicely furnished out. The shower was fab very powerful. Towels soft and nice dressing gowns. The bathrooms was starting to look a little shabby in decor though, and the loo brush fell apart! Dirt around corners. Slightly hidden by the dark decor of the rooms. But the bed was comfy and clean bedding. Lots of complimentary tea and coffee available. We didnt eat at the hotel so cannot comment on the food.
Its a great location to walk into town. The only downside was parking at the hotel. We got a spot ok for the car but the charge of £10 a day I think is excessive when the hotel room is so much as well. But would stay again and recommend.
