Having had a very good meal & overnight stay at both the Harrogate & Newcastle Hotel Du Vin’s in the past, we didn’t hesitate in booking York for a special night away.

Although this stay at York felt extra special. We can only put it down to the incredible service experience. Nothing could be faulted from check in, drinks in the bar, a meal in the restaurant, phone requests to reception, breakfast the next day, to check out. The service here was just as it should be, extremely helpful and friendly. The right level of chat, not too much. Just a friendly interest. We were given city maps and a boat timetable after briefly mentioning to our waitor that we might do a boat trip during our day out in York. Receptionist found us a hand car wash & advised we could leave our car all day after checking out.

A gorgeously decorated hotel throughout, our room was a basic room, but was perfectly adequate and sumptuously decorated with quiet air conditioning and quiet bathroom fan. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and good quality. A pod type coffee machine and free bottle of milk in the mini bar fridge.

We enjoyed canapés and champagne in the bar before dining in the restaurant. The bar is a lovely environment and as it was a hot day the conservatory roof was opened. The same waiter served us all evening. Absolutely faultless service. My husband & I were eating very different things so we decided to ask the semelier to choose individual wines for each course. He knew our meal choices before serving us. Knowledgeable without dictating a choice, he was a great guy who really wanted us to enjoy his recommendations, he even gave my husband a taster of 3 different wines to go with his steak before deciding on a glass.
I enjoyed the prawn & crayfish cocktail to start, followed by sole Veronique. Perfectly cooked fish in a beautiful creamy grape sauce. It was well worth the £26. My husband had a rare steak and said it was just as he had requested and the sauce was perfect & not over salty. A very good meal indeed with incredible wines.
Homemade Granola for breakfast was utterly delicious, there was an array of cereals and beautiful pastries along with fresh fruits. We also ordered from the hot menu. I had baked eggs & gruyere cheese with toast soldiers OMG! My husband ordered bacon & sausage, & was asked how he liked his bacon cooking. Very good tea & coffee and delicious fresh orange.

This was a perfect overnight stay and dining experience and could not be faulted in any way. We would love to stay here again. The food and the service were exceptionally good.
Only a 5 minute walk into the city, overnight parking was £10 to the rear of the hotel. Free wifi.

Stayed with my husband in July. Our room was lovely with Miller Harris toiletries etc but the hotel seemed tired and we were charged £10 to stay in the hotels own car park. The restaurant however was fab. Great food and exceptional service! Delicious breakfast too!

We made a last minute booking at this accommodation through Booking.com for £99 and it proved to be an exceptional choice. Not sure if all the rooms are in the building we stayed in, but ours was a roomy, clean and comfortable room in a building across the courtyard. Rooms are named after vintners and we had madfish. One of the few accommodations we stayed in on this trip that had a lift. Also had air conditioning. We also dined in the restaurant. While not cheap, we had a delicious meal. Service was a little on the slow side. Location is about a 5 minute walk to the city gate and 15 to the Minster.

Room Tip: Ask about parking. At checkout, we were charged £10 for parking that I thought would be free.

This is a short walk from just outside the York city walls although it is on a busy road, but set back and with plenty of parking (btw, £10 extra to park is a shame, think it should be included in price). Like all H du Vins this one decorated to a high standard, rooms have fab bathrooms and are really comfortable with all modern amenities (tea, coffee, well stocked mini bar, air con, comfy beds, stylish) and the staff are all friendly and attentive. Breakfast was great and menu includes a healthy cooked option. Lovely central courtyard which has a roof if it rains. Would def go back.

Overall the hotel was lovely and the room fantastic, however on check in I think we should have been informed about the times of breakfast and booking for the bistro, as when we came back from walking around we tried to book something to eat in the bistro and was told it was full, so ended up eating the complimentary crisps and nuts in the room. The bar prices are extortionate at £7.85 for a SMALL glass of wine, on leaving we were asked if we had anything from the mini bar, this was only found in a cupboard on checking our room for anything left behind on leaving, as was the tea making facilities which we would have loved when we woke up, as I said these things should have been pointed out on checking in, also the check in/out times are not very good at 3pm check in and 11am checkout, hardly anytime at all in our room at a cost of £250.00

Stayed here as part of a wedding, the venue is fantastic and provides brilliant service throughout, the staff could not do enough to help you. Our wedding party had the place to ourselves so we could all really relax and let our hair down.

The food all day was fantastic(from what I remember!) and the breakfast the following morning was brilliant, plenty of choice of cooked and fresh goods.

The rooms are very nice too, very modern, clean and well kitted out with everything you would need. The bed in particular was amazingly comfortable!

The location of the hotel is perfect for sightseeing too, just on the edge of the city, I would definitely recommend it for that purpose.

The only niggle I would say about the hotel is that the drinks are a little pricey, the rooms are ordinarily quite expensive but for the centre of a big busy tourist city they are probably typical.

overall, a very impressive stay

Room Tip: I heard no complaints about any of the rooms

My husband and I got married at this beautiful location in July 2013. Right from the time of booking to the wedding day itself the staff couldn't have done any more to make us feel special. Their attention to detail was amazing and they went over and above to accommodate our requests and wishes which ensured our day was perfect. We feel an honorary part of the Du Vin family and hope to return every year on our anniversary!
