We have just returned from a fantastic stay with the hotel Du Vin York. I decided to treat my wife to an overnight stay for an early Valentines Day treat and wanted to take her to somewhere special,i was not disappointed with the hotel Du Vin,York. On arrival we had no problem finding parking in their rear parking area and were met with a very welcoming arrival by the attentive reception staff. we had arrived a few hours earlier than the check in time so that we could go for lunch in York and have a wander around. This was no problem as the reception staff checked our luggage and stated that our bags would be in our room when we returned .After a very nice lunch in The Living Room in york and a wander around the city we returned to be checked in.We were then escorted to our room and all the relevant places of interest in the hotel were pointed out.We were staying in the main building of the hotel and had our own private staircase up to our room which made the room feel very private and we were not disturbed by other guests, as is usual in most hotels when they are returning to their rooms late at night etc. The room was fantastic,a large room with two huge sash windows letting in loads of natural light, sunblinds were available as were thick curtains if they were required. In the room was a huge roll top bath, flat screen tv, dvd player, iron and ironing board, tea and coffee tray with a cafetiere and 'real coffee' and a nice assortments of teas.Another nice touch was the fresh milk left in the mini bar .The bed was huge with loads of cushions and pillows and there was two thick dressing gowns in the wardrobe which also contained the minisafe. The bathroom was huge too with a large seperate walk in shower with a monsoon type shower head which had plenty of hot water available which has been a problem in other hotels with this type of shower. After a few hours of relaxation in our room we went down to the bistro for our evening meal. The bartender was very helpful giving us the option of sitting in 3 different rooms and after choosing the library showed us the way.He handed us a huge list of cocktails and other drinks and a huge choice of whiskies and cigars. The staff made us feel very welcome without been overpowering and couldn't do enough for us.The meal was fantastic and the service was faultless too.We had a lovely evening and a good nights sleep. We were very sad to have to check out as we would have been happy to have spent the whole week in this hotel. It is not the cheapest hotel going but when you compare the rooms, the food and the fantastic staff it is well worth the little extra money .We certainly left the hotel on a high and would not hesitate to recommend the Hotel Du Vin in York to anybody.
