We have just returned from a fantastic stay with the hotel Du Vin York. I decided to treat my wife to an overnight stay for an early Valentines Day treat and wanted to take her to somewhere special,i was not disappointed with the hotel Du Vin,York. On arrival we had no problem finding parking in their rear parking area and were met with a very welcoming arrival by the attentive reception staff. we had arrived a few hours earlier than the check in time so that we could go for lunch in York and have a wander around. This was no problem as the reception staff checked our luggage and stated that our bags would be in our room when we returned .After a very nice lunch in The Living Room in york and a wander around the city we returned to be checked in.We were then escorted to our room and all the relevant places of interest in the hotel were pointed out.We were staying in the main building of the hotel and had our own private staircase up to our room which made the room feel very private and we were not disturbed by other guests, as is usual in most hotels when they are returning to their rooms late at night etc. The room was fantastic,a large room with two huge sash windows letting in loads of natural light, sunblinds were available as were thick curtains if they were required. In the room was a huge roll top bath, flat screen tv, dvd player, iron and ironing board, tea and coffee tray with a cafetiere and 'real coffee' and a nice assortments of teas.Another nice touch was the fresh milk left in the mini bar .The bed was huge with loads of cushions and pillows and there was two thick dressing gowns in the wardrobe which also contained the minisafe. The bathroom was huge too with a large seperate walk in shower with a monsoon type shower head which had plenty of hot water available which has been a problem in other hotels with this type of shower. After a few hours of relaxation in our room we went down to the bistro for our evening meal. The bartender was very helpful giving us the option of sitting in 3 different rooms and after choosing the library showed us the way.He handed us a huge list of cocktails and other drinks and a huge choice of whiskies and cigars. The staff made us feel very welcome without been overpowering and couldn't do enough for us.The meal was fantastic and the service was faultless too.We had a lovely evening and a good nights sleep. We were very sad to have to check out as we would have been happy to have spent the whole week in this hotel. It is not the cheapest hotel going but when you compare the rooms, the food and the fantastic staff it is well worth the little extra money .We certainly left the hotel on a high and would not hesitate to recommend the Hotel Du Vin in York to anybody.

My husband took me to York for a surprise for my birthday and booked a night in the Hotel du Vin, which was absolutely wonderful. Our room was enormous, with very high quality furnishings and thick heavy curtains. The bathroom was also very big, with a free-standing bath and a walk-in shower, plus underfloor heating and lovely toiletries. The hairdryer was good and they seemed to have thought of everything. We enjoyed sitting on the comfy armchairs in the afternoon and browsing through the good selection of magazines.

The staff were all helpful and we had a wonderful evening meal in the bistro. It was a Sunday night and the place was about half-full, so there was enough atmosphere but prompt service too. The sommelier was particularly good and recommended some nice wines for us to try.

The whole experience was really wonderful, everything was top quality and I didn't want to leave!

As a treat we stayed in the Moet suite for 2 nights as a short break just after Christmas. The room was spectacular: an 8 foot bed, 2 sofas, 2 clawfoot baths, 2 plasmas, a Bose surround system, some nicely integrated loft features and an oversized rain shower. The service was always polite and the staff were very helpful but we weren't overly impressed with the bar (it is cramped and a trainee messed up our order), our breakfast (limited selection for both the continental and the cooked options) or the dinner (good value but not up to the standard I would expect of a hotel of this class). Some other minor gripes: it was disappointing as ever to have to pay for internet access; we didn't get the newspaper we requested; charging £10 for parking leaves a bad taste in the mouth and I was disappointed to be charged a fixed service charge when eating in the restaurant. All in all very happy with the room but slightly disappointed by the rest of the hotel.

Fantastic service, rooms, food etc.

There were only two things that were not too good, the recycle collection vehicle reversing up to the glass bottle bins making the required reversing sounds at 6:45am and the crashing of bottles at they emptied three of them; and there wasn't a Gideon Bible in the draw next to the bed.

So tips and guidlines: take earplugs and remember to take a Bible if you want to read one :-)

Our stay at Hotel Du Vin was one of the best stays in many years. We've travelled fairly extensively internationally and it well and truly exceeded our expectations. The staff were friendly, knowledgable and courteous. The rooms were fairl in size and the beds were the best we have ever slept in, in any hotel. We'd always choose to stay there again if ever in York.

I've stayed at the York HDV many times, each being of a high quality. They will help you in any way possible, such as ring you when away if a car parking space has become available. This last time a trip switch in the room went off once & 50% was cancelled from the bill! The food is excellent & equally the cocktails. The rooms are amazingly of high spec
