“Good Location”

We stayed here for two nights with friends last November to see the Christmas markets. The hotel is just out of the historic centre but it was incredibly easy to walk into the town centre. The bar at the hotel was a nice place to sit and relax. The rooms were and OK size but my one gripe was that the bed was incredibly small. I almost wish I had a measuring tape because it seemed smaller than a regular double! My husband and I like to have a good sleep when we are at a hotel, and while it was quiet and dark with the curtains shut, the bed was an issue, paricularly for the price.

Modern clean hotel in a convenient location.
Does lack a little character but makes up for this in other ways.

We slept really well on our short visit to York.
Our room was spacious and really nice.

Would recommend and would stay again.

We stayed for 3 nights. On arrival the receptionist was lovley, very friendly and gave us a map of York, on entering our room we were amazed. Lovely big bed, sofa, nice tv and desk area, amazing bathroom and shower! However the rooms were so hot that it was hard to enjoy our stay as we didn't get much sleep. The hotel was in a nice location close to the dungeons, river, castle museum and cliffords tower. It was not too far to walk to the shops but there weren't many bars close by (that we could find) apart from weatherspoons. The staff at the hotel were professional and nothing seemed a problem for them. We did enjoy our stay but did not sleep well at all!

Although the hotel looks fairly new and modern and the website looks fancy... do not be fooled! We stayed one night, in a tiny double room- the bed was incredibly small for a double and very uncomfortable; the bathroom seemed grubby and all the fittings, very cheaply made. It was very noisy outside- there was a factory at the back and it was difficult to sleep.

Clean & modern, located just inside the city wall, about a 5 min walk into the centre of York, hotel parking available for £10.00 a day (limited spaces available, but if you don't manage to get a hotel space, don't panic there are plenty of car parks around this area all charging around the same price). Can not comment on the restaurant as we took note from a previous trip advisor review and had breakfast at Wetherspoon's over the road, cheeper! (£4.50 for full English). Check in 1pm, check out by 11 am.
Booked the first night direct with the hotel on the morning of the arrival date, £80.00 for a family room (2 adults, 2 children aged 9 & 12) room only, plus £10.00 for parking per day. Payment taken on arrival! We arrived at 11am, parked at hotel, offloaded our bags into a store room located in reception beside rotating door and armed with a map of York from reception headed off to find somewhere for lunch etc. On returning to the hotel to check in we removed all bags from store room and NOBODY even looked up from reception, everything was there but with the door not being locked there was nothing to stop Joe-bloggs coming in off the street and helping himself.
Room itself was clean and modern, (double bed and sofa bed for the girls) Double bed was extremely high, I struggled to get onto it and I'm 5ft 6" . My one concern was that the bed had been pushed up against a low level heater in the room, because of the area needed for the sofa bed. My husband did check if everything was switched off because of the fire hazard, which it was. So not a huge amount of room for four, but we just used it was a base. Noise from laundry trollys being pushed around outside, late at night and early in the morning! Shower didn't drain away fantastically, did report to reception.
In the morning I did negotiate an extra nights stay, this time we got the room for £60.00 (same family room, room only) and they waved the parking charge. However on checking out the following morning, reception were adamant I pay for the parking. We hung in there and after 10 mins they eventually agreed that it was break down in communication!!! And the fee was wiped off and lost in the system. Shower still had draining problems, and brought it to receptions attention yet again. We have stayed in much worse hotels! I am a stickler for hygiene and good service, and would book this hotel again!
Fantastic things to experience with your children: Bettys tea rooms for afternoon tea, York dungeon (fantastic, fantastic, fantastic) , National Railway Museum (awesome and free), York Castle Museum (very good), take a walk round the city wall, wonderful little shops around the shambles area. Would not recommend "Jorvik", expensive. More staff visible on the outside than the inside! Speakers on the short ride at the wrong hight for children to hear the commentary, would never go back.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room.

The room we were given was very small and not very well appointed. The radiator was hanging off the wall but worst of all were the blinds in the room, these were cheap and did not block out light. This along with the lack of double glazing, the very uncomfortable bed, the broken toilet and the noise from outside made for a night of no sleep.
At 2am we called reception to move rooms and aside from a broken toilet the new room was the same. Did not sleep, checked out at 6am NEVER AGAIN !!
The restaurant service and food was fantastic EAT BUT DONT STAY

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else
