Fab hotel which is new and modern . Rooms are spacious, beds very comfy indeed , flat screen tv, Internet connection, lovely walkin shower and fluffy towels!5mins walk into town which feels safe coming back in dark. Only downside would be price of breakfast but there's a wetherspoon opposite which is handy! Staff on checkin are friendly and very helpfull . parking opposite was£10 for wkend which I thought was expensive but on route noticed most were roughly the same! Overall spotlessly clean hotel which I will definatley stay again!

Transferred to Hotel 53 late on Friday evening after refusing to stay in bug infested Blossoms hotel (see seperate review). The contrast between the two could not have been greater. Hotel 53 is modern, clean, spacious, and the staff welcoming, friendly, helpful and attentive. Buffet breakfast offered a good variety and was piping hot. I will certainly not hesitate to stay here again.

I stay here on business. Some rooms have recently been refreshed. The reception is small as is the dining room but overall it's not a problem. Hotel has free wifi in the rooms and there is secure parking across the road. It's well situated for the centre - just a ten minute walk away.

I went away with my partner for the weekend, first of all we had to park the car in a carpark just 2 mins away at the end of a short road. On a sat you have to pay upto 6pm after that it was free and also free on a sunday so wasn't to bad really.

First impressions were VERY good, very clean and modern decor!! There were no issues with the reception as we didnt really have any dealings with them, only just to check in and out, oh and to ask the easiest way to get to the centre. The room was beautiful and very clean again, it actually smelt like it had recently been decorated. The bed was very comfy just a little high ha! The room consists of a tv wit freeview, a kettle with tea, coffee, biscuits etc.. The shower was amazing!!! Plenty of room, great power and consistant temp!! Fluffy white towels with free toiletries. The only down side was the view but when its raining outside there wasn't much to look at anyway..

There was no complaints about the location just a 5 min walk away from the centre although I still needed to refer to a map whilst in the centre as I seemed to struggle to get my bearings, but saying that, thats prob just me!! You'll find a weatherspoons just over the road aswell.

Great weekend with plenty of history, shopping and bars to visit!!!

we visit York every December and would not hesitate to stay here again. The hotel is clean, the staff are friendly and the location within 5 mns of the city centre. The only downside is the parking (public parking opposite and a bit pricey .

I spent one night here on a trip to see my daughter at York University. It is a smart and modern hotel opposite a Travelodge and the (potentially noisy) Wetherspoons pub. I agree that the immediate area is not particularly salubrious, but it is within easy reach of the shops and other attractions. I had little communication with the staff, but the receptionists seemed pleasant enough. At breakfast, before the buffet was set up, one had to order the hot food, which proved a bit problematic with the foreign waitress. But she got it right eventually and the food was fine.
The room was comfortable and nicely furnished. The bathroom was clean and well stocked with toiletries, although, since I had been put in a disabled room (unnecessarily), the basin was a bit low.
I had a reasonable night's sleep in a comfy bed, although I think I was probably fortunate with my neighbours as they weren't too noisy. The walls are, indeed, paper thin, to the extent that this wouldn't be my first choice of hotel for a return visit. I may not be as lucky next time. This is a shame, as the lack of soundproofing is the only reason I wouldn't fully recommend this hotel.
