“The Good and the Bad”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 February 2014

We booked a 2 night stay through KGB. Arrived Friday and was shown to room 7 which was looking a little tired. The wall and ceiling paper in one corner was coming away possibly a result of damp. The vinyl floor covering in the ensuite shower room was poorly fitted. The WC cistern didn't fit and was away from the wall with a piece of wood behind it. The extractor fan was full of months of dust. We had barely warm showers Saturday morning and evening. The clean hand towel on Saturday smelt of not being dried fully before being folded. The bed was comfortable for us. We cannot complain about the food, the breakfast was good although the full english did state that it had tomatoes and mushrooms plural but the plate only had single. The smoked haddock and poached egg was tasty. After eating something out during the day on both Friday and Saturday we only had room for hot sandwiches in the evening, these were filling and tasty. Mixed reviews of the staff. The older ones were pleasant and helpful but younger ones although pleasant and helpful they showed inexperience with dealing with clients in the hotel industry, Although to be fair this is typical of the younger generation. Would have been upset if we had paid full price for the stay. Would eat there again but not sure I would stay unless room No7 had a make over. Don't know the state of the other rooms.

“Cosy Country Pub with Lovely Food and Good Service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 December 2013

Visited this pub/restaurant this evening. Very quiet, which I guess is because it's mid week. But a lovely warm log fire greeted us, as well as a friendly face! Excellent welcoming service and very good food. I had the pork and my husband enjoyed a rump steak. I would thoroughly recommend this establishment. We enjoyed a very pleasant evening here and will be visiting again.

“Need improvement”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2013 via mobile

Stayed here with my wife on a kgb deal, room was lovely and large had a good nights sleep, only drawback if i want to be picky, basin although large and new, had a loose tap, easy to fix, toilet seatbhit the flushing handle which has become loose, and seriously need a shower screen or curtain, instead of sitting in the bath. Downside was the restaraunt, soup came without roll, and no spoon, also lukewarm, main meal was also warm and didn't enjoy the duck, sweet was lovely. The young lad serving didn't seem to know he was doing and only 4 people in,the couple near us ordered a liquer coffee, which came minus the cream, think he needs re training ????.plus side was charlotte, who did the bar, and served food in the bar area, plus cleaning etc, multi skilled this young lady. She also took my wife and myself into york after her shift and brought us back, don't get rid of her a real asset.also thanks to sue fir our stay, and being helpful.not to many things to get in order abd make it a nice place to stay.the meal we had was on the sat night the 31st aug, think that date is correct.we stayed in rroom 4. Thank you brian and vanda.
