“Fabulous!”
Reviewed 15 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

This is a truly wonderful place. We came with our pup and he adored the freedom of the grounds which we where given full access to. Anne provided a welcome pack of bread, eggs, bacon, butter and milk. We where made very very welcome and nothing to much trouble and reduced entry tickets to castle howard all here waiting when we arrived. The place is a mix of history and mordern and done to a high standard and it was immaculate throughout we had a wonderful stay!! It was central to go off for the day and you have full access to the grounds here nowhere is off limits and is safe for dogs to wander as it is fenced

“Outstanding Property in an area of outstanding beauty”
Reviewed 29 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Just spent an enjoyable week at Platform 1.
We received a warm welcome from Anne and a lovely welcome basket on arrival.

The property is furnished to a very high standard and is well equipped and spotlessly clean.
Platform 1 is very pet friendly and our dog enjoyed the freedom of the house and gardens.

We loved watching the trains go right by the front door along the main line between York and Scarborough, especially the steam train.

We would highly recommend this property and will be returning in the near future.

“Wonderful location”
Reviewed 17 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

I stayed here with my husband and teenage son in July 2016. We are keen walkers (without a car) and the location was wonderful. We took the train from London to York and on to the small town of Malton. Our host Anne kindly picked us up from the station and also drove us back to the station at the end of the trip. She had left a great food package of eggs, bacon, juice, milk, bread and treats from the village shop for us at the apartment. We also picked up some extra groceries from the supermarket next to the station before being picked up. This meant we could cook dinner when we felt inclined. Otherwise we could walk to the pub at Welburn (20 mins walk) or the other pub in Kirkham (25 mins walk).

We spent one day wandering the enormous grounds of Castle Howard and visiting the Castle. It is a magnificent place - which also has its own food shop of its produce. Anne got us discounted tickets, which was great. We spent our other days walking on the many footpaths across the area.

The accommodation was lovely. The passing trains were an amusement - but not an annoyance. They are pretty quiet and stop at 11pm and start again at 7am, so they don't disturb sleep. We even got to see a steam train puff by. Anne also very kindly let me use the laundry to wash all our muddy hiking clothes. Her level of hospitality was superb.

Overall, it is a great place for walkers, train lovers and those who wish to see Castle Howard.

“Unusual and historic”
Reviewed 9 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

This is a comfortable and distinctive place to stay with a real sense of history. Well appointed but at the same time practical - all those little things that are sometimes missing (kitchen foil, kitchen roll, clingfilm etc) are in the property) -if you like to self-cater, , as we do, there's not a lot 'missing'.
Welcome Pack includes locally-sourced (and delicious) bacon and eggs.

“A beautiful location and lovely accommodation ”
Reviewed 29 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We spent 4 nights at platform 1, the garden and location were stunning and the accommodation was perfect to a high standard with everything you could possibly need. Anne met us with the lovely dog called culprit. She kindly organised a lovely welcome basket with local bread, eggs, bacon cakes etc which was a lovely touch. You can also pick your bedding. There are some beautiful birds that visit and and some gorgeous outside seating areas and a court yard. Plenty of places to eat within a mile or two. We also went to Castle Howard for a day it was well worth a visit. Thank you for a lovely few days we would love to come back. Helen & Martin

HI Helen & Martin So glad you enjoyed the whole experience. We have a new visitor to the bird feeder in the courtyard-a pair of jays, who are now disputing territory with the burly woodpeckers! Hope to see you again soon. Anne

“We had a great holiday here”
Reviewed 21 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We have just returned from a week here and the property really is a great place to stay. Anne gave us a warm welcome and showed us round. The basket of goodies was most welcome after a long drive from Devon. The property has been converted from its original purpose as a station waiting room brilliantly, by incorporating a stylish shower room and kitchen but at the same time retaining the building’s heritage with original shutters and windows. We also loved the railway memorabilia on the walls.
The dogs were well looked after for three days in the day care provided by the Dutch Barn just up the lane (again, highly recommended). This gave us the opportunity to visit the numerous places of interest in the area, all within easy driving distance of Platform 1, including York and Whitby. Of course we visited Castle Howard, which is a short drive away but can also be reached on foot.
We don’t tend to go out to eat in the evenings, so found shops in Malton handy for provisions and the kitchen at Platform 1 was well-equipped for our needs.

Glad you all had a good time Janet, and that the Dutch Barn day care for dogs worked so well for you (as it has for many other dog owners). You were perfect guests! Thank you for your review

“Wonderful base for exploring North Yorkshire”
Reviewed 19 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We stayed at the wonderful Platform 1 again, this time for the week, to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We brought along our 18 month old Jack Russell, Twiglet, who had a whale of a time running around the wild garden at the property in between walks in Whitby, Scarborough, Helmsley and Dalby Forest. We were warmly welcomed by Anne and basket of goodies along with towels and treats for Twiglet. A Yorkshire girl who had relatives living nearby whilst I growing up, I know the area well but it's lovely to have such a luxurious base from which to explore and discover new places. The cottage is well equipped, cosy, comfortable and was a pleasure to relax in when the April showers hit. We ate at the nearby Crown and Cushion in Welburn and had our anniversary dinner at The Talbot in Malton. Castle Howard Station is a truly lovely spot, we are planning to return for a third time.
