My two girl friends and I went to Northampton on a girlie weekend trip to catch up, watch my husbands gig and generally have a good giggle. We were all very pleased with the Aarandale Regent Hotel and have recommended it to others.
The service was great. When I telephoned to make our reservation the owner was very informative, helpful and accommodating. Unfortunately a few days before our party went from 4 to 3 and they were very understanding. On the phone we were also advised of the postcode of their car parking (as it is accessed from another road) and this was extremely useful. Furthermore the staff were nice, friendly and polite and cooked a great breakfast. They even did us poached eggs on toast as we were feeling a little too delicate for a full English breakfast.
We all slept very well. Even though our room was at the front of the hotel, which is essentially on a large busy road, it wasn't too noisy, it probably helps that the hotel is slightly set back from the road. There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room. If we wanted a hair-dryer, ironing board, iron, extra blankets/ pillow etc they were all available by contacting reception. The room was spacious, and there was s shower room pod, which was adequate. We had a very pleasant window seat too. The room, hotel, common areas and beds were all very clean, a definable thumbs up. The room had a small, wall-mounted television, a dressing table, wardrobe, draws and bedside cupboards, so plenty of storage. The net curtain was very clean too. Unfortunately the fitted bed covers, and curtains were a loud, busy outdated print, but this is pretty typical of this type of accommodation. Also there were not duvets, instead there were blankets on the beds, which is not to my taste, but they were fine and did the job.
We were particularly surprised by the pleasant, airy and simply decorated bar/ breakfast room. Parking was fine, the security at the hotel was good, with keys and pass-codes. It was also well located for walking into town for a bit of shopping, and then dinner and dancing later. There were shops over the road, including a kebab shop which was convenient after our nigh out.
The hotel is a tad old fashioned, the corridors and a bit dingy but again this is what I expected from this type of accommodation. I get the impression that lots of companies use this hotel to accommodate people visiting Northampton on business.
It is what it is and doesn't pretend to be something its not. I have family and friends locally and its not always possible to stay with them so we shall definitely stay there again if we need accommodation in Northampton.
Thanks for a lovely stay.
