Here is a superb use of local sandstone and limestone to create contrasting shapes and patterns in the walls. I love the clock on the tower of this church - painted blue and gold.

“A 12th Century Treasure in the Heart of Northampton”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 November 2012

I was fortunate to be walking pass St. Peters when I noticed a small sign saying: "Church Open Today." I never pass up a chance to visit an ancient church so in I went. A college student was minding the place and she gave me a tour of the church.

Since the church is no longer actively used by a congregation it is only through the efforts of volunteers like this student that such redundant Churches are being preserved and occasionally opened to the public.

St. Peter's dates from the early 12th Century. Its location is practically adjacent to the former site of once powerful Northampton Castle (the space is now the train station) it is likely that St. Peter's has played a significant role in Northampton's medieval history.

If you are fortunate enough to be strolling by and the Church is open, go inside. You won't be disappointed.
