I used to like the Hopping Hare, we would pop in for Sunday Lunch or a special occasion like Father’s Day etc and I always recommended the place to our friends.
But then I decided to book a 2-night Christmas getaway here. Firstly, the waiters & barman were really great, friendly and helpful. I cannot fault their service and they’re an asset to the place. But then there’s the manager, he couldn’t be more off if you pay him! To crack a smile would be too much to ask! Our room was nothing special and very basic with stained carpets, bed was ok, the toilet seat was lose and pillows were rock hard.
When I booked the room it clearly stated breakfast is included.
Hopping Hare sent me a booking confirmation email and never mentioned that we won’t get breakfast.
When we checked in on Christmas Eve we were told there’s no breakfast on Christmas Day. We were actually 100% fine with this because it’s Christmas after all and I fully understand they need to lay the tables and get everything ready for Christmas lunch. So we were really cool about it. They offered us a box of cereal & milk to take up to our room.
On Christmas Day we went out for the day and when we returned we asked the same not so friendly manager what time is breakfast the next morning. We actually wanted to invite some friends over to join us for breakfast. But to our surprise he blurted our there’s no breakfast the next day either! No apologies nothing. My husband asked if we could get at least cereal so he said well he won’t be in the next morning before 10am and there will be no one else either! He just wasn’t interested to accommodate us in any manner. It seems like all their effort goes into the restaurant and the guests staying over are just an after thought and left to their own devices. To pay £190 for two nights and be treated like that is not acceptable. Sadly I won’t be coming back and won’t recommend the Hopping Hare to anyone.

Dear Elmarie,

Thank you for your feedback. I must apologise for the mistake we have made regarding breakfast.

On Christmas Day and Boxing Day we do not have time to prepare breakfast for residents. When we receive room bookings we explain this to customers and reduce our room tariff to compensate, should they decide to stay with us. Unfortunately, on this occasion your booking was missed, possibly as you booked through a booking agent, but no excuse. If you can please email your full address to The Hopping Hare then we will send a refund for the breakfasts missed and we will tighten our process for next year.

Once again, our apologies.
Kind regards, David.

We stopped off at the hopping hare for lunch on the strength of the trip advisor reviews, they were spot on! 5 star food in a first class pub, we had smoked salmon & prawn open sandwich on beetroot bread, Would highly recommend. We will definitely return if in the area again

Booked here to meet friends as it was half way between us and them, and so glad we did!
Lovely comfortable modern rooms, with a huge bed, and excellent breakfast. We also had a meal in the hotel restaurant, which was lovely. Great choice of quality food, and great service considering how busy they were. Highly recommend!
