“Excellent service and value”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

we have often gone here prior to an evening at the theatre and felt that it was about time that we praised this establishment. Yes it is sometimes noisy but what do you expect from a pub that caters for footy fans. The food has always been good, yes it is pub grub but you expect that when you go to a pub to eat!!! We have never had a bad meal there and lately have taken friends with us who have the same opinion. Also the service and friendliness is excellent especially from Kev and Matt. We will be back!!

“A pleasant enough pub,”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Rather cavernous and gloomy. The garden outside is pleasant on a sunny day, Food is pub basic, burgers, lasagne bangers and mash and steak.

“Worth a try”
Reviewed 27 October 2013

Stumbled across this pub Saturday night whilst looking for a pre-theatre meal. A friend spotted that they give 25% off food with a valid theatre ticket, so we thought that we would give it a try. It is fairly large inside and to the left of the bar, it was very noisy with a very large, loud screen showing a football match. To the right of the bar the screens were showing more football, but it wasn't so loud, so we opted for there. The menu is quite large & very reasonably priced.
we had to wait too long for the food, but when it did come, it was very good quality, especially considering the price.
The young staff were very friendly & polite.
It is certainly worth a try, especially if your are going to the Derngate Theatre.

“Downhill with a tail-wind”
Reviewed 10 October 2013

We have eaten here before, a couple of years ago, and thought it was pretty good. Went last night at 6.30pm and was surprised to find there were no sirloin steaks. Oh well, never mind. Ordered a rump steak and lots of horseraddish sauce - yum! No, sorry, we don't keep horseraddish sauce. Hardly an exotic request, I was amazed and actually wouldn't have ordered steak if I'd known I was asking for something so unreasonable to go with it. Instead I had a garlic sauce which cost an extra £1.49 and was something of a non-event. The food was lukewarm, the peas were al dente in a way peas should never be, and I gave up on about half of the steak as it was fatty and unchewable. The grilled tomato might have caught a quick glimpse of the grill as it went on the plate but that was as close as it got. The onion rings and chips would have been absolutely fine but were just about warm rather than hot. The guy behind the bar and our waitress were perfectly nice though so no problems with the staff. We won't be going back. Hey ho.
