Ideal dog friendly inn, Helpful, friendly staff. Comfortable, spacious and warm room. Good parking just outside your door. Just the right spot for touring Northumberland and especially the Roman Wall.

We booked a room and breakfast for my elderly father in law. The staff at the Boat could not have been more accommodating in looking after him. He was escorted to breakfast each morning, and his needs catered for. Well done to all the staff at the Boat. We will recommend you to friends.

During our stay in a self catering cottage within the grounds, we visited the pub on several occasions: for Sunday lunch with friends, three evening meals and drinks after a day out in the beautiful Northumbrian countryside. The food was mostly excellent and the portions were enormous.
The friendliness of almost all staff and locals was amazing and we would regularly be brought in to join their jokes and conversations. Even the dog was spoilt with water, treats and lots of cuddles!
There was a log fire which was kept burning, making the room cosy and warm and whilst we were there, Christmas decorations were put up, giving the pub a glow inside and out.

A couple of things which slightly spoiled the perfection:
On one occasion our meals were a little dry, I think perhaps they hadn't been brought from the kitchen immediately and left standing a little too long. However they were still tasty and didn't warrant a complaint.
Secondly, one bartender was very brusque and not friendly as everyone else, but because of the warmth from all others, it certainly didn't spoil our vist overall.
Even considering these two down points, I couldn't give this little gem less than 'excellent'.

We highly recommend a visit to this pub and also a stay in the beautiful cottages within its grounds.
We shall definitely be returning.

Just returned from a chilly extended weekend visiting the sites along Hadrian's Wall. Great to have a comfortable, warm and welcoming place to return to each evening. We stayed for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Boatside. Attention to detail in the room was equal to many 4 & 5 star hotels I've stayed in. More than enough fluffy white towels; plenty of toiletries; lots of teas, coffee and warm bedtime drinks and bottled water provided. Lots of thought has gone into the furnishing and provisions in the rooms which all seem new, and whilst set apart from the main building are close enough to come and go to the restaurant or bar in comfort. The food is excellent and rather large helpings. Wait until you see the size and quality of the 'large fish' - my partner can trench for England but was beaten by the leviathan on his plate. Lovely room, excellent food, friendly family atmosphere in the bar, (great Geordie humour) - all round winner. Value for money 10 / 10. Hope to return. (I only marked the sleep quality down because the room became too warm but I turned heating off and all was fine).

Room Tip: All rooms appear to be good.

We stayed in the Boatside Inn for 3 nights. The room was spotless and warm. It had everything we wanted. There was bottled water, tea coffee, Horlicks, drinking chocolate and biscuits. There was a range of toiletries and fluffy white towels. We ate there each night and the food was good and plentiful. The real ale was delicious even though it was a little on the expensive side. The breakfast menu was extensive and delicious. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We are planning to return in the near future.

Room Tip: All the rooms looked good.

Happened upon this lovely pub whilst walking the dog , decided to pop in , no problems taking the dog in , very friendly , and the food was great ! I decided on their version if whitebait ,, think it was called " Braithbait" Was overwhelmed by the portion size as only expected a small serving . Looking round at other patrons , the food all looked good !! A very pleasant place and the young batman even gave the dog two biscuits !!! Brilliant
