“Relaxing & Peaceful”
Reviewed 27 May 2013

Just back from our timeshare week at Slaley. We have owned our villa for around 15 years (number 21). Love it. Yes its not cheap with high maint fees and then the ever rising cost of electricity at the end of the stay, but it is lovely with a fab view too.

Our villa was refurbished last year. Its fine but when the tv was replaced the shelving unit was taken away in the lounge and this now make the lounge appear empty. The table from outside the spa tub/Sauna bathroom has now been moved to the lounge - but really it just does not work. The master bedroom has also changed - the superking bed has shrunk to a double! Pictures have also been replaced which to us seems a complete waste of money - there was nothing wrong with the old ones.

As time goes on though the provision for the owners appears to be getting less. The weekly activity program is poor - this time there was only Golf - beat the Pro (but he was too busy to play!) & quiz on Thursday where teams of any numbers were allowed - so it was rather unfair when 6 v 2!!
No provision for beginners golf, no welcome meeting, no way to meet other owners & arrange golf - & no provision for this in pro shop. My husband had to go out on the coarse alone!
Overall a great stay, but felt very isolated this year but perhaps that was also to do with the weather which was not the best.

Our electric bill this year was just over £60 for 2 of us being very careful and turning off panel heaters in unused bedrooms etc. DeVere is the only company we have stayed at where electric is payable.

We have had our time share lodge here for over 15 years. The lodge, location and outlook are all splendid and as owners here we know where we are going and what to expect.
Beautiful location, the golf is magnificent, had a great round in the 'beat the pro' golf tournament and a fun quiz on the Thursday night.
Additionally, there is now free wifi in the lodge and Freesat TV in two of the bedrooms as well as the main lounge along with surround sound and data and Ipod input.

We stayed in a massive lodge with 4 double bedrooms,4 bathrooms,a sauna and a swirl bath.
Two friends visited for part of the stay.Hadrian's restaurant is reasonable value but the Grill is vastly overpriced.
The golf courses are very expensive and very busy.Defeated by both courses but only lost 4 balls. My friend lost 10! Lots of water and bunkers-you have to be very careful not to go in them.
Electricity charge at the end is a pain.
Overall,a relaxing break.

Room Tip: Lodges are very spacious and well worth it!

Recently returned from a week's stay in one of the luxury lodges in the grounds of Slaley Hall. The lodge is first class and the fixtures and fittings are of a very high standard. We had a 3 bed lodge and there was only two of us staying. The lounge and dining room looked over a lake and there was also a golf buggy available to rent if you were playing golf. We had a timeshare exchange with Interval International and our prime objective was to walk part of Hadrian's Wall which we accomplished over a four day period (only managed to walk half of it). Very quiet and peaceful and the outside patio had a good quality table and chairs plus a wooden picnic table on the lawn area that would have been good if the weather was warmer. The only negative was the high cost of electricity charged and if staying in the winter months this could run into treble figures as it would need to be on all day and night. We had the heating on in the lounge, hall and dining room constantly and it was only just adequate. We did not eat in any of the restaurants in the main hotel as we were out walking every day and eat before we came home. The bar area was pleasant and we enjoyed a drink here prior to check in. Plenty of good pubs in and around Hadrian's Wall and one in particular we liked was Twice Brewed. There is a lovely coffee/team room just over the bridge from Chollerford called Riverside Tea Rooms and the scones are to die for. We took the train into Newcastle for the day and were impressed with the city, especially the bridges over the Tyne to Gateshead. Slaley Hall is 7 miles from Hexham and about the same from Corbridge (lovely little town). Tesco, Somerfield, Aldi in Hexham and Sainsbury's in Corbridge. Slaley Village only has a small village shop and one pub that sold food (did not try either). The Traveller's Rest Inn is on-route from Hexham and we eat here once, but the Sunday roast was pre-cooked and not that good. We would be prepared to eat here again, however if in the area as the main menu food/specials may be better and there is outside seating for the warmer months. Plenty of walking round Slaley if you are interested in this. Would not hesitate to recommend the lodges and would definitely stay again. Although the resort is isolated it is within easy reach of many major places of interest.

Room Tip: Lodge overlooking the lake

We have a timeshare so have been visiting for close on ten years. We always invite friends or family as the lodges have loads of rooms and are finished and eqipped to a high standard. We enjoyed a trip to Beamish, the open air museum and also indulged in shopping at the metro centre. Lots of pub grub locally, we enjoyed the Travellers rest and also the Wellington. The only reason I didn't score this 5/5 was the spa and leisure facilities which are tired and in need of renovation.

We have a timeshare and have done for around 13 years and love our week. This year we had snow every day but to be fair, it was only in the hills and was clear downin Hexham and Corbridge etc. The lodges are clean and come well supplied with equipment you may need in the kitchen. There is a couple of TV's in the bedrooms and 2 hifi systems for your use. Plenty of towels etc too.

The cost of the heating is astronomical but as the weather was rather chilly, we knew it would be high but £85 for the week was a bit steep. Also the hotel prices are quite extortionate, so we popped down to Hexham for our own supplies.

Cleanliness of the lodges was good but when going to fill the jacuzzi I notice black mould rings around the jets so changed my mind about using this - housekeeping please just pay a bit more attention to minor things.

Generally a lovely place to visit; Northumberland is a hidden gem!

lodges are every thing and more apat- from getting electric bill at end of stay bit of a rip off.
very quiet place . the bars and places to eat .. are lovely to the eye but then you have your eyes opened when the bill comes with 10% added . i think if you want to leave a tip then you will the prices are extortion to start off with , we took own food and drinks thank god we did . Sauna area looks ok very small then as you make way to spar rooms wallpaper falling off rust round pool area with these prices you expect to see a fab decor constantly .
Would i go back you ask . answer no i would not

Room Tip: just be prepared to spend lots extra costs
