On a recent day trip to Hexham we came across this traditional pub and, sick of the usual Wetherspoon's type fare, decided to try the 'home cooked food' on offer here. Really glad we did - the mince and dumplings was perfect and the portion huge; likewise my omelette was light and fluffy and the chips were real, homecooked, genuine chunky chips, the salad nicely dressed and the portions were really generous! Both the chef and the bar staff were pleasant and friendly, and the prices (just £5.95 for portion sizes that even we couldn't finish) were great as well. One tip though - the 'light bites' are definitely not 'light bite' in portion sizes, so don't do what we did and order them as starters unless you have an appetite bigger than the guy from Man vs Food! Will definitely be back here again.
