We were welcomed by Mark who was very informative and knew a lot about the place and Norma who was very cheerful. Although this is one of the smallest NT properties it is well worth a visit. The information around the place are easy to read and very helpful and helped us to realise what it was all about.

This was a very nice place to visit. Not big so a coffee and walk was good. The best part was to see the Alpacas and their 1 day old baby.

Had a lovely couple of hours here. The weather was glorious which helps. This was the birthplace of Thomas Bewick who was an natural history artist and engraver. The printroom was amazing and whilst we were there we had a demonstration on how it would have been done but not using the wooden blocks Bewick used but using a replica. We all got a small print of a Heron to take home .
Lovely walk round the paddock and there were 3 baby Alpacas as well. Activities for children and deck chairs were available on the top lawn.

The house that he was born in was quite small but there was an exhibition in there of beautiful small paintings by Mark Fairnington in the style of Thomas Bewick.

The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and looked after you. Lovely cuppa and a scone went down very well which we had outside and with spectacular views over the Tyne valley what more could anyone want.

This is the birthplace of Thomas Berwick the wood engraver and natural history author. We wanted to visit while we were on holiday in the area but didn’t know quite what to expect but were very pleasantly surprised. The place is tiny but laid out very well with a room dedicated to his life and work, a Press Room and a separate (even tinier) cottage where he was actually born. The highlight was the Press Room where we met Kate who gave us a demonstration of the techniques of wood engraving and how to make a small print from an ink block. Absolutely fascinating. And we got to take away the print of a cormorant as a souvenir. If you love birds, art and history this is a place for you.

Me and my mum decided to have a trip to Cherryburn from Haydon bridge by bus (685 to Hexham then number 10 to mickley) as we've been meaning to come for ages. The staff are very welcoming and gave us a great potted history of Thomas Bewick's life. The location is fantastic with amazing views across the valley and the little tearoom was lovely. We will be back!
