A lesser retlation to the mighty housesteads but no lesser in welcoming and interest. This little gem is tucked away on Hadrian's Wall and run by English heritage. A wonderful passage back to the cavalry that were based on the Wall and a magnificent insight into the way that the soldiers used to live in the informative guide book. There is no tea room but they do serve coffee and tea and if the sun is shining the views are perfect. There is a charge for parking but this is refunded when you visit. The museum is cram-packed with roman atefacts and you could easily lose half a day here. Well worth a vist.
