“Beautiful setting, great for a group long weekend stay”
Reviewed 19 August 2014 via mobile

My friends and family organised a surprise long weekend here for my 30th birthday. We were a group of 10 and stayed in Cokaynes. The cottage was just perfect, spacious for a big group and with a nice traditional feel to it. As other reviewers have commented, no the bathrooms weren't modern and yes it was a bit dark, however this really didn't matter! Great place to stay for a large group and nice touch to provide towels, beach towels, bath robes and slippers. Kitchen was fairly well equipped although we did bring quite a lot of our own things.

Having the hot tub was great and the views were brilliant over the countryside. Fantastic that the dining table turned into a snooker table! Good facilities with the games room and the well managed pool - good idea to allow private bookings for 1 hr per day (although some people did abuse this).

Convenient location for Bakewell, Matlock and loads of other tourist places and nice local country pubs (the Druid Inn was great!).

I stayed at the Manor House at Harthill Hall recently with a group of friends. The House was absolutely fantastic - well-preserved and very grand. The website does not do the property justice at all; we were looking forward to our stay there after looking at the website but were even more pleasantly surprised by it on arrival.

There were 14 of us staying in the house, and the only downside to our stay was that there was not enough bedding on arrival set aside for all of us. Other than that, the kitchen was well-stocked with enough equipment (glasses, plates, etc) for us all.

We also used the spa facilities within Harthill Hall, which were fantastic. I would highly recommend Harthill Hall as a beautiful location for a long weekend break and hope to return again soon.

Just arrived back from a long weekend here.
Stayed in Henry's Haunt, a pleasant one bedroom cottage with very good facilities. Nice patio with dedicated area for BBQ ( bring your own or use disposable)
Hot tub a little jaded but still works fine and for warm weekends is perfect.
Rooms all clean and tidy and kitchen facilities are very good.
You are a little isolated here so a stroll to the local pub is very very difficult. The plus side of that is the wonderful peace and quiet.
In fact the only thing that prevents this from being an excellent choice is the lack of wifi except in one isolated area ( games room)
May not be important for some, but if you are in business and need to stay in touch (as I am) the lack of it is disappointing
Warning- cottages4you website describes as wifi included.
Otherwise a nice way to spend a weekend, lack of other immediate facilities just prevents the rating of excellent.

Myself and the wife have stayed here on 3 occasions and each time in a different room. Make sure you pay the extra and get one with a jacuzzi, you will spend hours in it. The private indoor pool is brilliant and normally you can book it for one or two hours a day. Its only a mile from Bakewell and all the pubs and shops. When we first went there was a restaurant on site but this is long gone and a shame because it was great. We did notice that they have now taken out the gas fire stoves which is a massive shame as in the winter you need them as its freezing. Overall a lovely romantic place to stay over

Room Tip: Pay the extra and get one with a Jacuzzi

I took my husband away for 2 nights,24th & 25th June, for his birthday. We booked Henry's Haunt. Pre arrival instructions were good. Weather for our stay was fantastic. Henry's haunt offered all we needed (apart from an ironing board, but it did have an iron). The apartment was big enough for 2. Some items were a little dusty, but the decor was old and ornate, so dust in the nooks and crannies was to be expected. We cooked on both nights and found all the utensils we needed. On arrival there waa a bottle of fizz, milk and chocolates in the fridge. Milk and sugar in the cuoboard and even sherry in the decanter on the dining table. The private hot tub was the icing on the cake. We had private use of the swimmimg pool and sauna which was also fantastic. All in all a relaxing couple of days in a beautiful setting. I'd recommend it to all and look forward to going back again.

We stayed tere a week ago it was a family gathering so we booked Cokaynes and the Priest Hole as there were 13 of us. with dogs
The Priest Hole was nice and well furnished although the beds were rather small probably because they need to fit into the small rooms. Kitchen well equiped and living area comfortable. Had its own hot tub with a nice view across the valley.
Best way to describe Cokaynes is dark and fixtures and fittings were very tired indeed. No real criticism aimed at it being dark from natural light due to its venerable age (4/500 years old) but the artificial light was poor to say the least =. There is a photo on the website of the dining room and they must have used additional light for the photo, had to be. Lets put it this way the dining table lifts off and there is a near size snooker table and with all the lights on you had to look very carefully indeed to identify which was the blue, green or black, no kidding. All beds were again small and uncomfortable. The bathrooms in dire need of modernisation for example bath had large pieces of enamel chipped out down to the bear metal, tiles were blown on the wall and grout holding them in place, flush the toilet and the whole house knew. Very very tired indeed. Hit tub was good and in regular use.
Plus points games room and swimming pool were good and the management running the complex were very helpful indeed.

We stayed in the Manor House for a long weekend 16/5/14 - 19/5/14 with family and thoroughly enjoyed it. The rooms are medieval (flagstone floors downstairs and creaky wooden floorboards upstairs which gives it that medieval feel), but fitted with a modern bathroom en-suites, dishwashers, ovens etc. We found the bedding to be clean and comfortable. We also had bath robes and slippers provided along with a set of towels each.

The Manor House has a private games room, gardens and hot tub just outside the back door from the kitchen which was checked over by the staff before use and well used!

The pool was an added bonus and we particularly liked how each property could choose an hours private use for just you and no one else, plus there is a changing area, spa treatments, sauna etc.

Plenty parking space, a small park for the children with swings, slide and see-saw and lovely views. Nice and quiet. Lots to do in the area also.

We enjoyed it that much, we have booked to go back in September for our
Wedding Anniversary.

Hope other people find this review helpful :0)
