Park in the shade under trees and then enjoy a lovely, long walk to the café. Dogs must be kept on leash as calves wander free (at least when we were there). Even though the car park was packed, we still felt like hardly anyone was there. Free parking for National Trust members.

We can be at Longshaw within 15 mins, so it's our regular countryside walk stop. Nice and flat so good for all age groups. Lovely views and you can take various routes depending how long you would like your walk to be.
Near both the Fox House pub and The Grouse Inn, so plenty of scope for an after/mid walk pint. Great to visit in summer or winter.

Lovely views, great place for a gentle walk, parking, cafe and toilets what more could you need? Two minutes away you will find The Fox House Pub which also serves meals and is very popular with walkers.

We are lucky to live close by to this National Trust facility and often visit the cafe after a walk around the Estate. The scones are baked daily and I would go so far as to say they are the best in Sheffield/Derbyshire. No microwaving of these scones - they are always fresh and crispy. The other dishes are always nice and they tend to use, where possible, ingredients grown in the Estate garden. The coffee is good too and all the food is very reasonable and the staff are young and helpful.

I've walked and climbed for many years in this beautiful area but have never actually taken advantage of the car park and visitor centre at the Longshaw Estate. Paid our £1 for an activity card so that our daughter could do the 'Ant Trail' (as featured on BBC Radio 4!) and went in search of Northern Hairy Wood Ants and their nests. Along the way we found fairy houses carved into old trees, secret paths, amazing views over to Higger Tor and beyond, things to climb on made of old trees, and the Boggarts' various hiding places. The ants are amazing and don't disappoint (they are towards the end of the walk so if you are coming with very small children then it might be best to do the walk in the opposite direction to that recommended in the activity card - but do the whole walk if you can).

Activity card is very informative and has lots of activities packed into two pages. In fact, it was so exciting that it was taken into school for a 'show and tell' the next day!
