Upon arrival my room was dirty. The carpet clearly had not been hoovered for a long time, the corners had piles of old hairs, etc stuck to them. The unhoovered carpet continued beyond my room, I followed the trail all the way from my door to just before reception-where it suddenly became spotless. Presumably because it's in full view of the front door! My shower room was filthy, bits of plaster & cement scattered around the shower & toilet and something powdery on the floor under the tiny, tiny sink. The toilet & seat DID appear to be clean. The towel they left on my bed was damp. When I picked it up there was a dirty mark inside it-it seems it may have been used & simply refolded. That would explain the long black hair that was sitting on top of it. I told reception, I was offered another room. I looked at the other room. It was smaller, had no tv, the curtains didn't fit the window (half the size) & there was dry blood on the curtain. Also there was no storage space. I told reception I would rather keep my original room & asked if it could be cleaned while I go out. I was informed that someone would be sent up with a hoover, etc. When I returned later that night nobody had been to my room. I was very tired so just got in bed-which was almost clean, there was a stain on the outside of the duvet cover. I dread to think what it was. The following day I gave breakfast a miss & went out. When I got back someone had merely picked up the larger bits of litter from my floor, it hadn't been hoovered, the hairs, etc were still stuck in the corners. Also, they never even touched the bathroom-still cement everywhere. I stayed for two nights-never used the shower, couldn't face it & the sink is too small for a hand wash. So, I couldn't wait to get home so I could have a good scrub. There were a couple of positives: breakfast (2nd morning) was nice & the pots, etc were clean, though the restaurant was bare but for a handful of tables that had been laid. Also, the young man who worked afternoons & evenings, I think he said he was Mr.Singh, was very friendly & happy to chat. The bar is clean but the room it's in isn't great. Would I stay there again? Never, never, never. Would I recommend it to anyone else? Never, never, never. Sorry Mr.Singh, you are a really nice bloke but your hotel is awful. A lot of work is needed. What amazes me is that there are award notices around reception. I'm sure one said the Stage was an exemplary hotel, or something similar. WHAT???????? That cannot be genuine. Most people who have stayed there knows that just is not true. This has to be the most disgusting hotel I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. which is sad because many years ago the Stage Hotel was a lovely thriving place with an excellent restaurant serving delicious Sunday dinners. How times change.
