Worth Every Penny. As my friend Mike put it "how do you make leeks taste that god. The staff were fantastic, paying enough attention to make it special without making it uncomfortable. We also got to meet Sat and the kitchen team without asking. A very nice touch

One of the best restaurants I have been to. And definitely the best in Nottingham . Food is outstanding and wines plus explanations from the superb sommelier are fabulous .
The experience at the chefs table is definitely worth going for, it is superb and much better than being in the main restaurant

The Chef's table in the kitchen for a 7 course tasting menu was booked for a special birthday treat (seats max 4 people) and was a totally amazing experience. At first I thought that it would be strange sitting in the midst of all the prep and cooking, but the various chefs in charge of their dishes explained what they were doing and answered questions if asked. You just felt part of the whole experience. Sat Bains bought out the starter of scallops with strawberry and tomato and the rest of the 7 courses were delivered by their relevant chefs. We also had the water bath duck egg signature dish to share which was truly worth the extra. I have to say each mouthful of every dish was to die for. I could list each course, but to be honest I would not be able to say anything but 'fabulous'.
Front of house service was attentive, friendly and faultless. It was a truly wonderful birthday experience. The cost I know it is very top end, but it really is something that should be experienced if at all possible!

Yes, you might need to remortgage your house to eat here. But the overall experience is worth it.

The tasting course is simply fabulous. Make sure you go for the extra dish at the start of Sat Bain's water bath duck egg which won the Great British Menu. Adds to the cost but it is memorable.

Of the rest of the menu, the chicken muesli truly stood out. The ox tongue and strawberry dishes deserve honourable mentions in dispatches. The salmon and baked potato came joint last but they were far from disappointing. Matched with the recommended wines and, boy, you have a winning combination.

You might have a different review if Mrs Badger was writing it. Sadly, there were a few dishes she didn't like. The duck in particular caused offence. But credit to the staff...they swooped in when they saw her shovelling it onto my plate and offered to bring something different. Textures of carrot were duly served. That's right. A plate of carrots for the main course in a two Michelin starred restaurant. Probably the best plate of carrots ever though. They also swapped her scallop dish for chicken satay.

The restaurant might be under a flyover and electricity pylons but it is still a memorable location.

We booked a table in the restaurant for our anniversary. We had seen the menu choices and drinks prices in advance on the website so we knew how much the evening would cost and were happy with that. We were greeted promptly and got excellent service whilst waiting in the bar area to be seated at our table. It was there we overheard a couple debating on how to keep the cost of the meal down by negotiating smaller tasting menus and cheaper drinks! We did wonder why they didn't check the cost in advance as we could tell their evening would be spoiled by the stress of it! Having eaten at a lot of great restaurants including some 1 and 2 Michelin starred we did wonder if we would find anything new at Sat Bains and were pleasantly surprised. Each course of the tasting menu was excellent (we particularly enjoyed the sensory experience with the venison) and accompanied by a great bottle of champagne - what more could you want! My only small criticism would be that if you are sat in the conservatory and look up you can see a few wires and cables which need tucking away. Small details I know but restaurant owners need to consider the 360 degree experience and they were right in my view!Either move them or move the chairs to have another view! Having said that you don't pick this restaurant for its views so I haven't changed the excellent rating I've given. On a par with the food was trying the sparkling saki (yes and its amazing) and having the tempered chocolate stacks with our coffees. And we got to meet Sat. He is apparently more than happy to meet his guests if he is there and we were showed round his kitchens, introduced to all of his staff and had a long chat with him. Perfect evening!
