“Great group visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 October 2013

Visited this as part of a WI outing - they very kindly opened up early especially for our group and we were all greeted with tea and biscuits while watching a film about the Frameworkers. As a large group we were divided into 3 groups who visited each room in turn. The framework room and demonstration was fascinating and it is very much a supervised but hands on experience. Everyone can have a go a small sock machine and you can even make your own pair of socks or have them hand made for you (at a cost). The cottages are an insight into the two levels of life for a owner and worker but we warned the upper level of the cottage is difficult to reach - i ended up crawling up the stairs and coming down on my bottom. You can also see Queen Victorias stockings amongst a stocking collection in a modern accesible building that includes the cafe.

“Cottage museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2013

This is a lovely museum; interesting to all ages. It is in a small (original cottage) area in Ruddington village. Children(even adults) can make their own scarf, or hat, or leg warmers on a basic stocking machine . Larger working machines for lace making are in a separate building...and demonstrations given....and lots more! Staff are very informative, and what's more....friendly and "hands on" . Inexpensive admittance..when I went earlier this year £2. Bargain!! Mobility wise visiting the upstairs bedroom in the cottage is a big challenge for some.

A really well-presented museum which gave a fascinating insight into the lives and work of framework knitters. Excellent guides and demonstrations of the machines with some hands-on activities. A step back in time.
