We visited Gurkha Kitchen after seeing the reviews on Trip Advisor. I have to say, the appeal was mainly the intrigue of this out of town establishment that was getting rave reviews surpassing any restaurant in town! We chose a wet and windy Sunday to sample their buffet and although the exterior made us think twice about going in (made worse by the weather I think), the food more than made up for it!
For £9 you really can’t go wrong. Yes, the drinks were a bit expensive for out of town, but I was assured by my fellow beer drinkers that the large bottles of Gurkha beer were really quite good and a bit of a novelty, so in my opinion, worth the £4.50.
The buffet included a range of starters such as tikka chicken, pakoras and daal; and about 5 different curries of varying types. We were particularly impressed with the freshly baked naans, which you can order throughout your meal. Top tip is to share them and keep ordering at regular intervals so you can always have fresh naan on the table!! The tikka chicken was divine. Such a simple dish, but amazing flavours and moist meat.
The interior décor was actually quite nice, which was a relief after initial impressions outside. Our only issue was the toilets – sort them out Gurhka kitchen!!! PLEASE! Not quite enough to detract from our 5* rating though
