this hotel has so much history, we had to get a publication from the the staff so we could understand exactly what and why this very old building was there, within minuets we were reading a history going back hundreds of years, with familiar names involved in the property, making it a very interesting read with a couple of pints in the bar, the hotel its self was was very clean and bright though out,and the staff were on the ball ,so to speak, down side, we were given room eleven, and that is situated over the kitchen, the extracter fan was eventually turned off about ten thirty/ eleven o`clock, and turned on again about six thirty next morning, a constant drone made it difficult to drop off to sleep until the fan was turned off , and when it resumed again in the morning, we both groaned, thinking "oh no, not again", no lay in that day, if we use the hotel again, we will definitely bear that in mind when booking the room, we also had drinks in the bar, prior retiring to our room, a very comfortable bar area, with leather chesterfields and great decor, in the fashion of a very old hunting lodge, another great thing about the bar, there was no pointless back ground music, or over the top television, just a quiet peacefull area to sit and wind down after a hectic day, all in all ,our stay at the bestwood hotel was a good one, and can recommend it completely.

Room Tip: please dont accept room eleven, due to the noise from the extractor fan, no other kitchen noise was...

Went to the Bestwood Lodge Hotel to be the photographer for a friends wedding in late April and had a fantastic stay.

I arrived a day early to have a look around the beautiful grounds and the hotel, and room were very clean and furnished to a high standard (the most part of the hotel has that old lodge feeling still, and the room I was staying in had a more contemporary modern feel) The lobby bar has to be one of the nicest areas i have ever sat to have have a drink.
All the staff were friendly and helpful, and they put up with my ridiculous questions that I kept asking, all keeping a smile on their face all the time. I was made to feel welcome at every stage of my visit.

definitely recommending this hotel to my friends who are traveling to this area!

Recently spent several nights at the hotel and enjoyed my stay immensly. Staff really looked after you from check in to checking out. Zorah on reception was very accommodating, I had a flat tyre and she helped me find numbers for garages also helping me out with several other problems. I was blown away by the service from all of the staff day and night. Malcolm was so friendly and helpful as was every one but cannot remember all their names. The food was of a high standard and the chef is to be commended. I had two little dogs with me and they were made to feel very very welcome. Our rooms were of a high standard and overall a very positive experience. Will be visiting this hotel again in the future and many thanks to every one.

Very sceptical when booking taking some of the reviews into account, BUT when we arrived traveling through the suburbs out of Nottingham into Arnold (which is a continuation of Nottingham) you came to a dead end sign traveling up this small road through what seams like a park climbing in the woods until you reach the car park which leads round to the main entrance stands this spectacular building. Our stay was very pleasant staff were great, nothing was to much trouble, food was good, our room was vast, queen sized four poster, room was warm even with some drafts from the large windows, and the views of the well kept gardens leading down the hill, over looking the heavily populated area in the distance with the Japanese garden to the right, a truly stunning setting for wedding photos and well equipped for the receptions with the ballroom adjacent to the large patio even with its own civil ceremony chapel. The hotel was in very good order for its age ( rebuilt by King Charles 2nd) the Royal hunting lodge is steeped with history and has a calming feeling to the hotel. All I can say is that we enjoyed our stay very much and will be back again for another peaceful quiet relaxing stay. On our departure the manager was kind enough to give us a personal guided tour of this historical building and is a credit to its present owners to maintain such a wonderful part of our history.

Room Tip: Up grade to the superior rooms!

Great value for money !We stayed B &B when the weather was at it’s worst.. Our room overlooked the huge grounds and the heavy snow made this a Narnia style woodland
Quite easy to find, with a warm welcome and a lovely big bar area which was once the great hall ,I would imagine. A big roaring fire and a good pint of Boddingtons from the bar really kept the cold at bay.
Our room was very warm and roomy. The one gripe was the bathroom.Note to the tiler, when you grout a bath, half fill it with water so the grout sits properly when somebody gets in!!
Superb breakfast with a good selection of fresh fruit…shame the tea was a bit weak..never mind, will be back ,for sure.

I was looking for a hotel between Nottingham / Mansfield for a business trip and the Best Wood Lodge was the perfect location from a fairly limited choice. The approach is a little strange as you do need to travel through the local housing estate but the hotel itself is in a peaceful location, with nice grounds and the building is certainly impressive with its detailed architecture. However, once we entered the hotel, our experience went rapidly downhill. The check-in was painless enough but the staff had no personality or warmth, it was all very stale. Having negotiated the incredibly tight stairs that previous people had mentioned, we were extremely disappointed by the room. The decor was very dated and tired. The bed was basic, the tv too small and the room was just uninviting. The bathroom had recently been refurbished and looked modern but the shower was small and very weak. The heating was under powered for the room and there were no additional blankets for the bed. The bar area could be really nice but once you look beyond the log fire there are cracks in the ceiling and paint flaking off the walls. In the rooms they state room service is available 24 hours a day but that simply isn't true. We returned to the hotel at 10.30pm after a business meeting and asked if food was available via room service. We were told the chef wasn't prepared to cook any hot food, so the only item available was a cheese sandwich. In the room there was no bottled water and when we called for room service the call went to voicemail. A very poor experience from a large, well known hotel chain.

In the morning we went for breakfast and the experience continued to decline. This is not a large hotel and at breakfast there was only about fifteen guests but they had run out of four breakfast items and the items that were available just sat in greasy trays under a hot lamp and looked as though they had been there for hours. We arrived for breakfast at 9am, with an hour to go until breakfast closed but by the food on offer, you would have thought breakfast finished an hour earlier. I waited for ten minutes, whilst they cooked the sausages but surely common sense tells you to start cooking extra sausages as the current stock starts to run low. The other approach they seem to take is to only cook a couple of extra items of a certain food at any one time. So again you will be lucky to get all your breakfast items onto a plate at the same time. Trust me when I say the breakfast experience was very frustrating and other guests were complaining on the points above when walked past reception later that morning. On checking out, it was the same experience as we experienced on arrival e.g. quick but completely devoid of any interaction or even basic conversation (did you enjoy your stay etc).

In summary our stay was disappointing, with this hotel needing investment and additional staff training. It could be a nice hotel in an interesting building but I feel under its current management and within the Best Western brand it will always struggle to deliver on its potential and against newer / cheaper competition. I certainly would not return to Best Wood Lodge any time soon.

The hotel is in Arnold, not Nottingham proper. It is a slightly strange setting. It is an old building in a country estate, but sits just on the edge of a housing estate. Having said that the location was fine, if unusual.
Check in and out was smooth and hassle free, although going up the tight winding stairs with a suitcase would be problematic.

The room was tired, and a little dated, but comfortable enough.

Food: evening meal was very good. Breakfast next morning was disappointing though. Although not a lot of guests, the food was congealed in the trays and not terribly hot. Very ordinary coffee and toast. Quite uninspiring.

The lounge was very nice if a little cool, although not as cold as others have found it.

There is a sign stating that hot water takes some time To come through, that was accurate, never came through the whole time.

It is though a very grand looking building with the look and feel of a private hunting lodge.

To summarise, I've stayed in better places, I wouldn't go too far out of my way to stay again, however if I was in the vicinity and got a good price , I wouldn't rule it out.
