A group of us went for dinner here one Wednesday night. We all ate from the set menu which is really good value at £9.95 for poppadoms & chutney, a starter, main course and rice or naan. The food came out really quickly and was very tasty although the portions were noticeably smaller than you'd normally expect at a curry house. This would be easily rectified by adding some extra side orders though.

When we came to pay however, we were really surprised that a £2 corkage charge had been added to the bill for all of us, despite the fact that not everyone was drinking alcohol and one of our group had even bought soft drinks direct from the restaurant. This charge hadn't been mentioned at any point and the owner seemed surprised that we thought it was unreasonable to charge this to non-drinkers. As the food had been so good, it was a real shame that we left with 'a bad taste in our mouths' as a result. I'd go back again as the food was definitely good value, but I'll be wary of the corkage charge next time.

We went here for a friend's birthday. Book a table as by 8pm it was full( and a bit noisy), and i can see why. £9.95 for a set meal which was two popadums with chutneys, starter, and main. Everyone enjoyed their starters, though the main courses were not the same standard. I had onion bhaji for starter which was well presented and was tasty, a vegetable pasanda and plain rice for my main. The main was a smaller portion than i expected and the pasanda seemed to be more sauce than vegetable. However i would defintiely go back, but next time order extra rice and a side dish.
Oh and i agree with a previous reviewer the Lincolnshire Poacher pub next door is definitely worth a visit.

Right next door to real ale pub The Lincolnshire Poacher, Amaya is possibly the best, and best value budget curry house in Nottingham. Boasting a complete lack of a licence to sell alcohol, this place allows, nay encourages people to bring their own booze. A couple of doors down is an off-licence where you can stock up.

Amaya usually has a deal on for about £10, which includes poppadums, a starter, main course, rice or naan bread. You can pay an extra £1 for mixed meat dishes, or £2 extra for king prawn. The food here is of a quality that reflects a more expensive restaurant. It is always flavoursome, portions are large, and usually they get the level of spiciness right.

I've only had one experience here that wasn't great, when we had a looong wait between courses which I believe was due to some equipment failure in the kitchen. Apologies were offered eventually and a 10% discount given, so fair play.

Amaya is just what Mansfield Road, and Nottingham has been crying out for for a long time now. Quality curry at a budget price, one that is low enough for you not to mind when you end up leaving half of it because you're too drunk to eat it all at the end of a night out.
