The Ramada Hotel in Nottingham City Centre is very well located for the Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall, being only a couple of minutes' walk away. Although the hotel overlooks Upper Parliament Street, it has an unimpressive entrance on a back-street. The reception area is small and uninspiring but I found the receptionists to be polite and helpful. There are two lifts to the six floors and they were remarkably quick, with little waiting around required.
On walking into the bedroom, my first impression was spacious with a very wide bed. I found the furnishings and decor to be quite cheerful and of decent quality, although a few pictures wouldn't go amiss. A good-sized TV was provided as well as tea/coffee facilities with biscuits. The mattress was a little hard for my liking and the heating/air-conditioning made a noise but fortunately could be switched off at night. The bathroom was also roomy and reasonably well presented. The usual liquid soap was provided on the walls but this was good-quality Dove soap which was very effective. Overall, I was impressed with the room and felt very comfortable in it.
I took dinner in the hotel restaurant (but not breakfast). The conservatory restaurant was a large pleasant space but the tables and chairs gave it the air of a works' canteen. The menu is reasonable but not extensive. There were only three people eating at the time, but this did not seem to speed up the proceedings. The pizza that I ordered was substantial and good-value, but burnt on the bottom. The cheesecake was also nice but was served with "cream" that had the consistency of milk. So not a bad meal overall, and the waiting staff were friendly and efficient.
For £50 (room only), I thought this hotel represented excellent value and the room would make a pleasant base for even an extended stay in Nottingham.
