Last night a few of us (friends) dined at Sat Bains as a send-off for our mate who is emigrating to Australia. We had been trying to coordinate this meal for a while, finally agreed a date and booked.

It is not easy to find - so read directions carefully on the website. Once you do arrive there the atmosphere is relaxed, quiet and unassuming. The staff are very friendly but unobtrusive. The restaurant was, as ever, fully booked.

Our menu selection was one of the Tasting Menus with the addition of Sat's award winning Duck Egg course + a cheese selection. The wines were discussed and selected together with the knowledgeable and adventurous sommelier. Every dish & morcel is a delight to look at and a wonder to taste. The variety of food is stunning. We were astounded by the flavours and palate-stimulating sensations.

At the end of the evening Sat came out to see us and presented our (soon-to-emigrate) friend with a menu signed by every member of his team. What a nice man and exceptional Chef.

Thanks to everybody for making our evening such a superb experience

Room Tip: Book several weeks early to make sure you can book a room. Make sure you read directions to get to...

As a birthday treat my partner booked us a table at Sat Bains. We found the restaurant somewhat difficult to find however the staff were most helpful and guided us successfully to the restaurant. We received a very warm welcome and the atmosphere inside was cosy and intimate. The service was very personal and all staff were friendly, they could not do enough for you. We had the 10 course taster menu, including hare which was fantastic, as well as a variety of other dishes, all of which were fully explained by the knowledgeable staff. The high standard of the restaurant is testimony to the fact Heston Blumenthal was also dining on the same night.

After speaking to Mrs Bains she arranged for us to go and see the kitchen which was a great added extra to the evening. Overall an extremely enjoyable experience, we would highly recommend a visit to this well deserved two Michelin star establishment. Craig Hallam, Leicester

I booked dinner at Sat Bains for partner's birthday along with a double room. As a check-in treat we were given the most delicious brownie that provided a good indication of the food to come.

The room although not massive was beautifully presented and included a roll-top bath which my partner adored.

We were joined for our 10-course tasting menu by my partner's parents and brother, and decided to push the boat out with the matched wine menu which they customised for my partner as she much prefers white to red wine (although she did still have the sparkling red with one of the dessert courses).

The food was absolutely phenomenal. Each course was beautifully presented, described in detail along with the matched wine by the (non-pretentious) waiters. In fact all of the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

We were even invited into the kitchen to meet Sat himself and spent a few minutes chatting to him. My partner and her mother were very pleased to be given copies of our menu signed by Sat.

All in all a truly memorable occasion, I would urge anyone considering going to give it a go.

I booked a package of a 7 course tasting menu with matching wines and an overnight stay for my other half's birthday.

To say it was a truly special and memorable experience would be an understatement!

The entire experience was absolutely amazing, absolutely faultless. From the moment we arrived the staff were courteous, friendly, informative without a hint of pretentiousness.

We have dined at several Michelin starred restaurants and Sat Bains stands out way above. Especially those in the South!

The room was fabulous, with so many fine touches including the most delicious cookies.

We are planning our next Sat Bains fine dining experience...we really don't want to go back to any of the other Michelin starred restaurants we've tried...what an impression Sat has made on us!

I booked a package of a 7 course tasting menu with an overnight stay for my husbands birthday. It was a truly special and memorable experience.

The food was absolutely amazing and the staff were courteous, friendly, informative and welcoming without a hint if pretentiousness. We have dined at a number of Michelin starred restaurants and Sat Bains really stands out from them all.
All of the staff really make you feel like you are a valued customer and we even got to meet Sat himself who was a lovely gentleman, who really seemed to care about his customers and who paid credit to his amazing team.
The rooms were lovely and we had a free standing bath in our room which was fabulous and we also had the most delicious cookies too!
Don't hesitate to book Sat Bains for a special meal you won't forget. This restaurant really stands head and shoulders above other michelin starred restaurants we have visited.

This restaurant with rooms should certainly feature on the 'to do' list of all "foodies".
We arrived and checked in to a lovely room but a problem occurred with the heating and we were moved to an even more beautiful suite.
Of course we had the tasting menu, with the signature 'egg' as an extra - all exciting and delicious.
The staff were charming, although the sommelier did become rather involved with a couple determined to tell him about every Michelin starred restaurant they had ever dined in and how they were VERY 'chummy' with Tom Kerridge. But hey, we're big enough to top up our own glasses and it is only because of the cosy, intimate atmosphere - which we adored- that you can't avoid others annoying foibles!
The staff are professional yet charming with no pretensions, and my only gripe is that Mr Bains, who I find rather gorgeous, was not in. Oh well, s'pose that means we will have to go back...

Room Tip: Room 3 was lovely, room 7 was even better.

We visited for our wedding anniversary. We received a warm welcome and were very peased with the suite (room 8). Enjoyed a relaxed drink in the lounge before our meal - the 10 course taster with wine package to accompany.

The food was excellent, as was the wine. Great service all round, including detailed descriptions of each wine served.

I would have rated the evening a 5 but for loud/thumping music from a nearby event - not sure exactly where but it was close enough to feel the vibrations ! This unwelcome disturbance finished at 2am precisely.... Followed by about 30 minutes of traffic exiting the event right past our bedroom window.

After a few cups of coffee to compensate for the lack of sleep we both enjoyed a very tasty breakfast.

All in all a very good evening - perhaps we were just unlucky in terms of clashing with a "rave" just down the road :)

Room Tip: Room 8 was right next to the road and whatever event that kept me awake until 2am, probably not the...
