Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: Based in Nottingham’s historic Lace Market, the National Justice Museum is housed in Nottinghamshire’s Grade 2 listed old Shire Hall and County Gaol. The Museum uses original Courtrooms, dungeons and prison cells, along with a number of more contemporary galleries to exhibit collections relating to justice, the law, crime and punishment in a fun and interactive way. When visiting the museum you may also meet a variety of colourful historical characters with different stories of justice to tell.

“Atmospheric and generally informative”
Reviewed 9 December 2013

I am not an avid museum attendee and I don't preach about loving museums but whilst we were researching what to do in the Nottingham area I came on TripAdvisor to have a better understanding of what there was to do. My girlfriend has always been into her crime and justice and I thought that this would be the perfect attraction for us to visit. We were not disappointed in the slightest. The thing I don't like about museums is the fact that a lot of them just rely on you to look around yourself and you don't take a lot of it in. They get you involved by giving you a criminal number and from that you can find out stories of why you are a prisoner. The cosplay that the staff put on is superb. They really make you feel like you are a criminal but it is all part of the fun. They even give you free galleries in which the general public can have a look. All in all a superb attraction

“Excellent place to visit!”
Reviewed 8 December 2013

Spent a good 2 hours on the tour which, at weekends, has themed characters talking you through some of the rooms. Really enjoyed giving evidence at 'the trial"! Tons of history and the exhibits are really interesting.

“An attraction not to be missed”
Reviewed 27 November 2013

Whilst in Nottingham, this is a must. You will learn how criminals were treated in the past, join in the court cases of prisoners & generally enjoy the day. We have been several times. It can be a bit scarey for little ones, I think above 8 is about the right age. History is well taught! A definate day out not to be missed!
