“Quiet”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 January 2014

We stayed one night here on New Year's Day and the hotel was really quiet. Our executive room on the first floor had windows on two sides, overlooking the entrance and car park. It was small but nicely decorated, with comfy bed, desk, large flat screen TV hung off the wall, power points next to the bed, kettle but no fridge. The bathroom was small with plenty of storage space but no bath.
We had trouble getting the room warm as the thermostat didn't seem to reflect the actual temperature, but when we contacted reception they bought us a heater, which was fine.
We had a bar meal, which was fine and cost £47 including drinks for two. Breakfast was cooked to order because they were so quiet and it was very good. Service was good too.
The location is lovely if you have a car to get into Nottingham itself.

Stayed in this hotel on New Year's Eve 2013 for one night. The hotel was easy to find and staff were very friendly. Check-in was simple and the rooms were perfect, good size, all amenities like coffee making facilities, safe, iron and ironing board along with a hairdryer. Our room was clean, modern, had a very comfy bed, great bathroom, wall mounted LED TV and you could connect to the free Wi-Fi throughout the whole hotel.

We also had breakfast in the morning for an additional £8.50 each which was good value as the breakfast catered for all tastes.

My partner and I caught the bus in and out of Nottingham City Centre to celebrate NYE and the bus stop was located a 5 minute walk away, there is actually a bus stop 2 minutes walk from the hotel main entrance but I believe the service only operates from this stop during term time as the hotel is located right on Nottingham University campus, either way what's a 5 minute walk out of term time?!

My partner and I have probably stayed at around 6 hotels in the Nottingham area now and I honestly can't fault this hotel and it's staff and will definitely book here for future visits.

The Orchard Hotel was really easy to find, we stayed here for one night in December 2013 and have nothing negative to say about our stay.
The bathroom was spacious and clean, with a huge shower. The bed was massive and we slept really well. Noise wasn't an issue at all.

For a hotel whose rhetoric emphasises conservation and green sustainability, it seems odd that (1) there is no cycle parking near the entrance (when I asked I was directed to the far end of the car park where there are a few uncovered cycle points; covered ones can be found farther away in front of Orchard House on the university campus), and (2) the room's temperature control system activates automatically on inserting the key card to switch on the power in the room and then has to be manually switched off -- every time one returns to the room! -- and (3) all guests, even those from non-Western backgrounds, are forced to use consumable toilet paper because there is no bidet or water jet in the toilet, nor even a bucket in the bathroom.

The mint-and-eucalyptus shower gel was a useful wake-up in the morning. It would have been nice to have been able to precede and to complement this wake-up with a self-catering kettle for tea and coffee but alas none was present in the room.

The hotel's wireless Internet service is free, requiring only a brief registration page, and seems faster and more reliable than the university's eduroam network.

During my first stay the greeting was desultory; the desk clerk's tone seemed almost robotic. Despite travelling alone and arriving fairly early, at 4.46pm, I was booked into a room with two small beds rather than a single larger bed, next to the lifts, whence I could hear my neighbour's television through the wall. (On a subsequent stay at this same hotel, the greeting was warm and welcoming, and I had no problems with the room.)

On check-in one has the option to tick the "express checkout" box whereby one's bill is automatically computed and despatched -- however, it's only on reaching the room that one learns, via a note on the desk, that unless one intervenes a one-pound charity donation will appear on the bill. (I prefer to select my own charities. It would be fine if there were a donations box at reception.)

All in all, this is a hotel of an acceptable standard, more comfortable than most, and decent value for money if booked at the promotional rate. The location is highly convenient to the University of Nottingham, whose beautiful campus makes it a relaxing place to stay. Guests wanting convenience to Nottingham city centre and access to a variety of restaurants and activities should opt for a city centre hotel instead.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms that are next to the lifts.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review following your stay with us. I have taken on board your comments and it is only when customers take the time and effort to make observations on the standards we operate that the team are able to make improvememts where shortfalls have occured.

I just wanted to point out that the tea / coffee facilities are loacted in the wardrobe, maiximising space on the desk in your room, i can only apologise that you did not see this.

There ae cycle hoops located at the front of the hotel aswell as some loacted at the entrance to the car park . Once again apologies if you were not informed of this as they are a recent addition to the hotel.

Thank you for the feedback.

Kind Regards,

Pros ; great looking hotel
the rooms are a good size.
Staff are great.
The eco features we liked.
Nice setting.
Little bit quirky but in the best possible way.
Comfy bed
Cocktails were very nice

Cons; little bit hard to find
Walls seem very thin can hear next door ( but by sound of it they were shouting)
Little bit out the way from centre( that's what we wanted tho )

I would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone business or leisure.

We stayed here for two nights whilst attending a friends wedding locally. The hotel looks impressive inside and out and the rooms are comfortable. Hotel staff were every helpful and have good service during our stay. The only small grip is that there is a walkway very close to some of the rooms due to being on the campus and at times you can feel a little over looked.
All round a really nice hotel and value for money :-)

We stayed over Christmas from the 24th to the 27th so we could visit the family but have a comfortable place to recover from the festivities. It is situated on the Nottingham University campus in a lawn and wooded area, next to the conference centre. Easy to find from the Brian Clough road.

The entrance is imposing and the lobby stunning in it's design. It felt big, spacious and elegant from the start with lots of comfortable seating in the lobby area and, for the warmer months, a deck out the back. Our room was light and airy, and a nice relaxing place to be. I have an eye sight problem so I like bright, well-it rooms - and ours was prefect. Everything worked and it was nice and quiet at night. Breakfast had a good choice from the full English heart attack special to cereals and fruit. Staff were always at hand and pleasant. The location is ideal if you want to have a brisk walk or run to sort out out the cobwebs. Finally, the price was very good, cheaper than most bed abd breakfasts. We will go again.
