“Oldest pub in England”

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem

Supposed to be the oldest pub in England dating back to 1169. Called to visit the historic inn. Drinks slightly more expensive. Tourists from japan and Canada were among the patrons whilst we were there. Whilst you are there you could try playing the game Ring on the Nose. You play by swinging a rope with a bulls nose ring on the end then swing in a pendulum action to try and hook onto the horn on the wall. Not easy.

The pub is set at the bottom of Nottingham castle, it has caves inside which are interesting to look at. However the drink prices were ridiculous, 4.55 for a bottle of cider!! Maybe it's because i am a student i am more used to paying £2 per drink but as a group we thought the prices were too high and you were paying more to be in the country's oldest pub. I don't think i will go back again purely because it was very expensive.

Had a meal here (and a few drinks) with a load of colleagues. Both food and service was good, and everyone was pretty friendly.

Suspect it gets really busy in the summer!

Apparently, the room we were in was haunted!

This is a most unusual pub, set into, and partly carved out of, the sandstone cliff and walls of Nottingham Castle. There are a lot of rooms, all set out differently, with explanations of their historical past.
We sat in a tiny recess that had originally been a chimney carved from the rock. Lunch was excellent - wide choice, good value, quickly served. The friendly staff were more than happy to chat about the history of the pub too. Thoroughly recommend it before tackling Nottingham Castle!
