“Needs updating”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

This place was once an absolute beauty but has now been allowed to fall behind the times. They have really tried by putting Batman facts all over the place, but unless you're a fan of stuffed animals, this isn't for you.

“Great gardens, shame about the playground”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

First, car park is chargeable. Take the bus (30 every 15 mins from city centre. £4 family all day.)

But the playground is disappointing, couple of swings and a slide. Though it is apparently being improved.

We went to the hall first, which has a 'good' natural history museum with some stuffed animals and a bird display. Downstairs are the great hall and dining area etc.

It is worth taking a tour to the kitchens and servants area, probably the highlight of the visit.

We then went round the formal gardens; fabulous.

The sensory gardens are hard to find (lack of signage through the whole place) but are a great hideaway for a picnic.

Walk around to the glass house for some plants, which is great, well worth a visit and a sit down.

A walk or even jog around the lake towards the University gate is worth it near Arbor Hill, sit on the top and be alone.

Overall, well worth a 3-4 hour visit when the industrial museum and gallery is closed, 4-5 hour when there both open. (MUSEUM WELL WORTH VISITING)

(There is also an art gallery, shop and café in the courtyard.)

“Best early morning walk in this city oasis”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

If you want to see the deer and enjoy the best of this free experience, visit early in the morning. Feed the ducks by the lake or walk in the beautiful garden by the main hall watching squirrels chase each other from one magnificent tree to another. Experience beautiful views from the top of the hall, down to the lake. Lots of walks in this oasis in the city.
