“Really good hotel”
Reviewed 11 November 2013

Visited this hotel 5 years ago and returned for a relaxing weekend in a suite. We don't require a lot - nice surroundings, good food and peace to relax. The hotel delivered very well overall with just a few minor grips.

The corridors are looking a little worn and the carpet in the suite was stained but overall the level of decor and quality of furnishings is very good with a very pleasant contemporary feel. The hotel delivers above average with its refreshments tray - we had wine, small jar of chocolate raisins and another of peanuts and they were good quality, along with above average coffee and biscuits. The tv in the bathroom was a nice touch too and there is a comprehensive choice of channels. It's also great to get free Wi-fi in the room and, without exception, the staff were very friendly with many being local, which made a very pleasant change and created no language issues of the sort we have encountered in other UK hotels. The food in the restaurant was excellent, with lots of choice, and our room service breakfasts were generous and delivered on time.

Our only major surprise was we did not know the hotel allowed dogs. There must have been one near our suite as it yapped through much of Saturday evening. Fortunately, it stopped by the time we wanted to go to bed and when it yapped and woke us at 8.15am on Sunday, it did not continue and we were able to go back to sleep. Clearly it could have been very different and given the hotel was full, there would not have been much that could be done. Not sure how often this hotel has dog guests but we will therefore add a request to be in a room away from any guests with dogs in future!

Frankly we could stop there as it was great stay but we know Q like to try to continually improve so will offer the following niggles as they can be easily rectified:

1. We had a late check out. Without exception, where ever we stay, this never gets coded into the keys at check-in unless we ask. It would just be so much more professional if it was addressed automatically.
2. We had the wrong paper delivered. No big deal but just a little more care needed.
3. The senior staff in the restaurant were excellent but some of the waitresses on Saturday would benefit from a little more training. Their communication skills just need a little more polish - it's great they are friendly but they need to be careful that that does not translate into the language feeling more like you are in Pizza Hut than a nice restaurant.
4. With the late check-out, we left the do not disturb sign on our door on Sunday to avoid the cleaners forgetting. However, they ignored the sign, knocked and told us 11 am was checking out time. Again no big deal, as we simply explained we had a late check-out, but a little more effort and the whole operation could be more professionally delivered - surely housekeeping can easily be told which rooms have late check-outs?

It's a great place and we'd not hesitate to use again or recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask if they have any dogs staying and make sure you are away from those rooms!

All the looks you get when researching this hotel make it look EXCELLENT.
The staff were very good and helpful, sometimes beyond the call of duty.
We had a suite and found that there were only five coat hangers in the large double wardrobe. Not enough if you are staying more that one night. The room was very clean and everything worked, or in our case the window was repaired within 15 minutes.
The disappointment was the restaurant. The staff were brilliant and the breakfast was well stocked with everything. But the evening meal was overpriced what was on offer. This is possibly due to the fact that there are no nearby alternatives.

Room Tip: If you can a suite for a good price. go for it.

Stayed for a weekend in October whilst attending an event inside the hotel itself. The hotel was easy to find and parking was not a problem; Check in was a breeze and the staff were very helpful and welcoming.

Breakfast is an all you can eat buffet featuring the standard items (eggs, bacon, sausages, etc.) along with toast and pastries. If there was anything missing, a member of the staff was on hand to help with any problem being sorted out quickly. N.B The coffee that is served is amazing and perfect for the morning coffee drinker!

We ordered room service a couple of times and while the prices were on a level with expensive pub, the food was really good and we were able to enjoy it in the calm setting of the room which was very spacious. We didn't use the spa which is why I haven't rated it.

An excellent base in Nottingham which I would recommend!

We've stayed here many times but the quality is always the same. It was however a very busy weekend as there was an event which took up most of the foyer & several of the ground floor rooms, the hotel was crowded most of Saturday, less so on Sunday.Because the bar was really full on Saturday & there wasn't room for us to sit around reading the paper, drinking coffee & eventually lunching in there we decided to have lunch in our room. this was the one area where someone slipped up as both the meals delivered were not what we ordered. We were given a complimentary drink but because of someone in the kitchen mis-reading the order it meant the waitress had even more to do collecting the wrong order & delivering a second, we know they were under pressure but we thought this a bit slapdash, unlike their usual professionalism.. On the plus side there is a new restaurant menu which is much more varied & has a lot more choice. As usual the staff were as friendly, obliging & efficient as they always are. We had booked for spa treatments in the afternoon, these were relaxing & carried out by pleasant & attentive staff.

Room Tip: There is a lift & as we are walking disabled & can't walk far we find that either room 2...

Stayed at the hotel on a one night spa break with a friend. It was fantastic value for a Saturday night stay. Arrived and had a lovely buffet lunch. There were loads dishes to choose from. Went to spa, had our lovely treatments and spent time by the pool. Also used the relaxation room (you do have to leave spa and walk through reception to get to it) this was not an issue for us as you are given robes. We also had dinner included and the food was amazing with an excellent dessert menu. The staff were all excellent and provided great customer service. Especially the waitress who helped resolve the dessert dilemma!

I don't normally write reviews, but felt that with some of the negative feed back I would say I couldn't fault the hotel.
Stayed to visit my daughter during my half term break as she is at NTU. Booked through a comparison site and got a very good rate.
The reception staff on arrival were efficient and helpful.
The spa area is clean and the pool etc. very inviting.
The room was large, particularly in comparison with a hotel I stayed in the city centre recently.
The bar and food are good.
All the staff without exception are friendly and attentive.
The breakfast is very good, a large choice which is continually topped up,One member of the breakfast staff, Joanne, was particular friendly and helpful giving me a plate of food for my daughter and her friend as they hadn't got up in time for breakfast.
My only little niggle is that breakfast finishes too early @ 9.30 a.m. if you are on a holiday visit rather than a business visit.
Will definitely be returning.

My girlfriend and I booked a romantic weekend away for our anniversary. We have stopped in a Q Hotel once before (The Stratford) and we were hugely impressed - so the Nottingham Belfry seemed an ideal choice.

It seems having impeccable customer service skills is one of the requirements for working at Q Hotels as the staff are always so attentive and friendly. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who made us feel very welcome. On hearing it was a special occasion, they added a lovely touch by arranging for chocolates and champagne to be waiting in our room. We ate in the Lawrence restaurant on the night of our arrival, and had a delicious meal. Abby, who served us for much of the evening, could not have been more friendly and showed a real interest in where were from etc. There were some added extra touches at the table, where our pudding bowls were edged with the words 'happy anniversary'. It was so lovely and testament to the genuine desire to treat customers well.

The room was so spacious and clean, with comfortable beds and a spotless bathroom. We got a great night sleep and had a hearty breakfast the following morning. The breakfast is buffet style with a vast selection on offer. We ventured in to Nottingham for the day however due to poor weather, decided to head back to the hotel and enjoy a quiet afternoon. We ordered room service whilst relaxing in the bath robes available in the room, and frankly, it has been a while since I have felt so relaxed.

In summary it is a terrific hotel with everything you need for a nice getaway. The spa and pool facilities looked great although we didn't get chance to use them! We will definitely be returning but we are also keen to try some of the other Q Hotels after being so impressed with our experiences with them so far.

Thankyou for making it so special for us!
