My sister and I enjoyed a two-night spa break here. Everything was fine, and it was very good value. Really comfortable beds, though we did have to separate them into twins. We'd have liked more lounging areas in the spa (not comfortable lounging in robes in the hotel's bar where there were lots of business meeting). Everyone was very helpful and courteous, and a back massage from Becky was my best ever! The chef made pancakes for breakfast on Shrove Tuesday, which was a nice touch.

My mother and I visited the Nottingham Belfry for a one night stay on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis costing £99. We chose the hotel as it has a leisure club, which is what appeals to us most. Plus I have spent some time living in Nottingham and knew how to get to the hotel.
I contacted central reservations via email prior to our stay requesting a quiet room and dinner at 7.30pm, however my email was not acknowledged and I assume that it was not read either in regards to the room we were allocated-but more on that later.

We were kindly checked in early on our request at 1pm. I had contacted the hotel directly a few hours prior to arrival to see if we were able to use the leisure facilities from this time assuming our room would not be ready however we were rather pleased at the courteous receptionist who advised us that the hotel had been full the previous evening but our room was available to check in to. Dinner was also booked for us as requested at this time. On arrival to our room via a rather dreary grey corridor which had maybe once looked chic and minimalist but now rather tired and slightly dated we found the room to be small with twin zip and link static beds. Not an issue for mother and I but I wouldn't feel too happy about sharing a bed within such close proximity to a work colleague for example. The mirrors were a little dusty but it was rather fresh and modern and most importantly clean. Disappointingly the room overlooked the busy dual carriageway which was probably 15ft away from the window. As the room was warm and we had to open the window a touch throughout our stay it wasn't the quiet room we had requested.

After a cup of tea and unpacking we found our way to the health club which consists of a small gym on the upper floor, beauty salon and pool with sauna, jacuzzi and steam room. The pool is very small and as it appeared the entire local community were using it on a Sunday afternoon we were lucky to get more than a few lengths done before giving up. The sauna, steam room and jacuzzi were also chocka-block. Our towels were stolen (yes-stolen!) from the pool side however it was not an issue for us to simply request more at reception and by 3.30pm the pool area was quiet enough for us to have a decent swim and use the sauna and steam room without sitting on a strangers lap.

Dinner was taken in the restaurant which was virtually empty apart from maybe six diners. The cheapest bottle of wine was £25 and not to our taste so we opted for a sparkling Australian wine by the glass which the staff seemed was not enough as were still asked if we 'would like wine with our meals' after ordering! Our allowance was £52 between us which wasn't bad value to say that the rate we had paid was pretty much half of that so we weren't expecting much of the food. However it exceeded our expectations-we managed 3 courses each and although not gourmet standard the food was tasty and well cooked apart from my Tandoori Pheasant which was so tough I had to virtually saw through it with my knife and I question whether it was actually pheasant. That said, whatever it had a tasty sauce and the accompanying sweet potato was lovely.

The room was very hot overnight and the window had to be opened again until the traffic started in the early hours. Although the beds were comfortable the pillows were not and we battled and fought with them and eventually I just threw one out of the bed and folded the firmest in half. Not the best nights sleep, but just as I thought I may get a few hours the fire alarm sounded! At 6.15am! And again five minutes later...and again at 8am.

Breakfast was served until 9.30am on a Monday morning so it as just as well we hadn't slept that well and were ready by 9am. A selection of the usual cooked items was available however they had been left untouched for a good couple of hours as the scrambled eggs and baked beans had a thick film on them, the fried eggs were hard and the hash browns tough and crumbling. I opted for a sausage, some mushrooms and toast. The continental selection was rather poor, consisting of cereals and croissants plus dried fruits. No yogurts or cooked meats although I did find fruit salad and some tough cheese by the toaster and some orange juice. Not the best breakfast we've had but it filled a hole.

Checkout was quick and pleasant and we were given a code for exiting the car park. The receptionist also apologized for the fire alarm issue.

Overall a fair stay for the money paid, although probably wouldn't stay again-we value our sleep too much!

Room Tip: Upgrade if you enjoy your space, be aware that 'twin beds' are actually a zip and link doubl...

The rooms are very comfortable, modern and stylish. However poor nights sleep as woken up at 5am by the sound of the motorway. The walls are also really thin so could hear everything from phone calls to bowel movements in the rooms either side. All in all though a reasonable hotel. There service is generally very good; very friendly and accommodating.

The thing that I was really disappointed by was the food, specifically the "gourmet" burger. This was a bit of a contradiction, as although it came with tasty hand-cooked chips, and a lovely sour dough bun - the burger itself seemed to be a Birds Eye frozen burger. It tasted cheap and nasty. For £15 "gourmet burger at a 4 star hotel, I expect the burger to be made in house. If it was (which I seriously doubt), they need to massively up their game as the quality was poor. Seriously depressing after a 4 hour drive.

We stayed here for a 2 night short half-term break on Sunday 16th and Monday 17th Feb 2014, we had 2 rooms (1 double -room 315 - and 1 twin room 347) and couldn't fault them, they were well appointed, well maintained, comfortable, clean, nicely decorated, great duvet and pillows and had every facility you would need. (even a selection of magazines)
Beautifully clean bathroom and shower with toweling robes!
Well stocked tea, coffee and biscuits.
The minibar was included and had a complimentary beer, wine and soft drinks. and there was even a jar of spicy coated nuts or chocolate covered raisins each day!
All sky channels, (including movie channels) and free WI-Fi .
All the staff were very attentive, friendly and courteous
# I forgetfully left my mobile phone charger in the bedroom when we went home, and the assistant head housekeeper actually phoned me up the next day and arranged to post it back to my home address - brilliant service!!
The Restaurant has a superb menu and wine list (we were on dinner, bed and breakfast) and everything was delicious, very well cooked and very professionally presented & served.
The swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna were great, and the bar had a great selection of beers, wines and spirits hot chocolate with marshmallows, coffee and tea.
The hotel is only about 20 minutes from Nottingham and we went with our two teenage daughters to the National Ice Rink near the City centre which is Olympic sized! it was good fun and very reasonably priced.
A great place to stay for a short break (or longer) anytime of the year - this is the third time we've been as a family - and will definately be coming back again! ;-))
