16 Pilchergate
Reviewed 19 March 2012

I recently stayed for a couple of nights at 16 Pilcher Gate and am really pleased to say that we left the booking too late to get a 2 bedroomed apartment at the Ice House nearby. I didnt know about these apartments and my better half found the website after a substantial search online.
We booked a standard 2 bedroomed apartment, which looked to be good enough for our needs...

Upon arrival we were greeted by Val, who is exceptionally friendly and helpful. She gave us a little background info to the apartments and mentioned that they also had a penthouse on the top floor. We enquired as to whether this was booked and decided to have a look since it was not....

WOW!!! Just simply WOW!!

Your key is needed in the lift, as this opens directly into the apartment which is HUGE! The living area is open plan and is well equipped to make the stay quite special. There is a stereo, but maybe an ipod docking station would be more useful. The photos speak for themselves....
In regards to the bedrooms - the master bedroom was very big and included an ensuite. If you can't sleep well with noise then I will point out the only downside to the apartment is the noise. In our bedroom (the master), there seemed to be a continuous noise/vibration coming from below (near the door). This sounded like a washing machine in a flat below on a continuos spin cycle. We hadnt noticed it during the day, and only 1 of us noticed it at night - but this wasn't a problem for us. The other couple remarked that outside must be the cleanest street in Nottingham, as there seemed to be an endless stream of street cleaners and bin lorries in the early hours of the morning!! I think this is pretty standard for a city centre location, and again the standard of the apartment itself more than made up for any noise.
The other bedroom has an ensuite shower - which could do with a revamp to really make use of the space in there.

Don't be put off by the negatives in this review, I've just tried to be honest with the details. It really is a breathtaking apartment, and well worth the upgrade to make your stay that bit more special.

Thanks for the hospitality Val :-)

My wife and I had just returned from a shopping holiday in Nottingham and we stayed in 16 Pilcher gate apartments for 14 nights. We arrived late in the afternoon, used the Sky Link bus from the airport and met Peter, at the train station. Peter drove us to the apartments and he explained everything to us, then we went outside with him and he showed us where the city centre is, where the supermarkets are and other suitable information, that helped a lot on your first day in a new place and that was great. Our first words when we entered in the apartment was, wow its wonderful, it’s like staying in a four star hotel room!! . We stayed in a studio flat and it was very well equipped with TV, DVD, Microwave, Steamer, Toaster, Fridge, Utensils and all you need. If you want to cook, there is a small kitchen on the second floor that is also well equipped. On our second day we met Val the housekeeper, more then a housekeeper Val is the one responsible for everything there. She is a very nice person, and will treat clients like friends, so for sure you will become friends with Val on your first days of your holiday. Although we definitely will stay again in 16 Pilcher gate apartments for next time visit in Nottingham, I have some suggestions to the owner so this will make better apartments.

I suggest that, if there is a hot plate and a filtered cooking extractor in each studio apartment and sensor light in the stairs leading to the laundry room and the kitchen, will make a better stay.

The only negative thing is that in the weekends it can be a little bit noisy in the streets, but for this the owner can do nothing. Where ever you stay in the city centre, in the weekends nights is a little bit noisy, cause there are clubs and a lot of students in Nottingham. These apartments are in a great location so don t let some noises in the weekends make you refuse to stay in 16 Pilcher gate apartments.

I have stayed here many times, most recently a few weeks ago.

Good points:

-.central location, yet quiet, on the edge of the historic Lace Market area

- excellent value at under £70 (any night of the week) for what is really a large hotel room, with some kitchen facilities, and a smart bathroom

- friendly and helpful housekeeper (Val) to let you in to the building and show you to the apartment

- flexible check in and check out times - just speak with Val

- guest-friendly attitude: no payment in advance if they know you, pay on departure

- windows open in all but one apartment

- shops and visitor attractions close by

Points to watch:

- no front door bell, so phone Val before you arrive

- no phones in apartments, another reason to take a mobile

- no staff on site overnight, so be careful not to lock yourself out!

- most, but not all, apartments have baths as well as showers

Room Tip: ask Val what is available - some apartments are bigger than others with more facilities.

Rented a 2 bedroom suite for a week and had a very pleasant stay. Was very well looked after by Val the housekeeper and did not want for anything. Our suite was very large and perfect for entertaining. Was very impressed with the furnishings, well equipped kitchen to the very large bath towels. The location was ideal for shopping, two grocery stores very handy and two shopping centres plus resturants galore.
Clean, comfortable, spacious, secure, well located -we were very pleased and would highly recommend 16 Pilcher Gate.

My husband and I stayed here for 10 days. Peter and Val were very accommating, we were picked up from the train station after a long haul flight which made life a lot easier.

The studio apartments are more like well-catered large hotel rooms and there's no front desk, but the location is very convenient and there is a Tesco just around the corner.

Ideal for when you want access to a microwave and toaster etc to keep costs down.

16 Picher Gate,
21/5/2008

For a very special birthday celerations, one could not choose a better place than Nottingham, whatever the weather it doesnt make a differnce there are so many things to do like shopping, dining, and visits nearby tourist attraction like the cathedral city of Lincoln, and the seaside resort of Skegness, and on the special day itself Newstead Abbey, and the Sherwood Forest, we were all most impressed, and also the 2 concerts at the Royal Concert Hall. on such ocassions the place of stay is very important, the old saying !nowhere is like home, decided to stay
at 16 Pilcher Gate, in the Lace Market.
with friends for 1 week, from 24th of April 2008,

This was not my first visit to 16 Pilchard Gate, but it was to the others, and all were most impressed, unforgettable pleasure.
I decided to travel up late the night before the others, and stayed at a nearby hotel, so that everything was in order before theyre arrival Thursday early noon.
I arranged with the manager Mrs Val Malone, and was able to collect the key at 08.30hrs, so that I would get all necessary provisions in before my friends would arrive.
The appartment was a two bedroomed, lounge, and a modern fully fitted kitchen with all utensils needed, the bedrooms are the largest I have ever seen, nicely furnished with quality furniture, more than sufficent storage, and most modern expensive fittings, both bedrooms are ensuite, with telephone and
television, what I like about 16 Pilcher Gate, I am allowed to move the furniture around in the lounge to my liking, eg:- easy chair by the window to make reading a pleasure.
I cannot praise 16 Pilcher Gate enough, but most important is the location, most central, no need for taxis, whether it is the train station or coach station, Broadmarsh and Victoria shopping ccentres, the Royal Centre or the Arena, all are within 10 minute walk. also we are looked after well by Val Mallone, the house manager, most knowledgeable person, and makes sure that the place is spotlessly cleaned every morning.
