“A Fabulous Stay We Will Definitely Stay Again!”
Reviewed 10 July 2013

We loved the location, the pub itself is fabulous, quaint and everything you hope for on a visit to the Cotswolds. As with all pubs that have rooms the rooms are not massively huge but it was immaculate had everything you could wish for and was decorated very well. The bed was extremely comfortable and there were plenty if towells and it was peaceful. The breakfast was simply delicious with lovely touches such as regional butter and decent local ingredients - great sausages, bacon etc and freshly baked croissants. All in all our stay was fantastic and we would have loved to have been able to stay longer.

Quintessential Englishness! Beautiful positioned with local cricket pitch across the road and Burford within a 5 minute drive - or 30 mins stroll along the River Windrush! We stayed in the Orchard room which was clean and simply but tastefully furnished. All the staff were very friendly and helpful - food also fabulous (although on the dearer side ...) This was my 2nd time of staying and I would go again. It's not cheap but lovely!

We stayed at the Swan Inn for only one night in late June, and what a mistake that was! I could have spent our entire Cotswold 4-day tour here. It is in a great location for day-trips and served an absolutely top-notch dinner and breakfast. We had "Debo's Room" in the carriage house, which was a bedroom, bathroom and sitting room arrangement. For just the two of us, it was so much space, and perched on the second floor for pretty views of the rolling hills. Unbelievably confortable bed, big soft towels and sweet decor without being over the top. The bathroom doesn't have a shower and we LOVED that. Encouraged us to take a long, luxurious bath and relax.

Having stayed at dozens of bed & breakfast inns in the US around New England, I can say the Swan Inn shows them all how it is done. We had quite a list of options for the included breakfast and the staff was accommodating of special orders. We ate directly from the menu, because the options were DELICIOUS (eggs, pancakes, french toast), but a table near us had a litany of special requests. The kitchen appeared to meet them all. FABULOUS service!

Dinner was easily the best we ate while in the UK for 10 days, including many "fancy" restaurants in London we spent twice as much at. The atmosphere was romantic and classy, and it appeared that local folks enjoy the restaurant as well.

It is definitely on our list of places to return to, and next time I'll book a long weekend!

Room Tip: Debo was big and lovely.

We made a special walk along the Windrush to visit this Inn for a special dinner. I called ahead to see if we needed to book a table. And I was told yes because that night was 'steak night' and very popular. I had looked at the menu on-line to see if there was something for my husband who is a vegetarian and I was reassured that the regular menu would still be available, and I specifically inquired about the Risotto dish, yes it would be available. But as these things go when we inquired again, about the risotto available, we were told by the front staff that it was not. The chef told us via the front staff that it had not been on the menu for months. So I guess a bit of a do about some simple risotto, but it wasn't our fault that the online menu hadn't been updated, or that the staff was under the mistaken impression that it was available. In addition the ale hadn't been kept very well. Seemingly more of a cocktails and wine venue rather than real ale, although again the website boasted of this. On the plus side, the back garden was very nice with free running 'bantams' and I had some nice cider and a good steak, but overall not what we had anticipated and no remedy offered by the chef when it became evident that cheese and chips would be my husband's meal. Obviously, no point in ever returning.

My wife and I had a delightful lunch at The Swan Inn during a vacation in the Cotswolds. Coming from the US, we were guided to the Swan by a friend from Beaconsfield. We were charmed by the rural setting and welcomed by the bright, cozy restaurant. The menu was superb and the food even better. Friendly, helpful service was the icing on the cake. The Swan Inn helped make our vacation even more enjoyable. --GMARKHAM

We had a family weekend here. The rooms are comfortable but no showers in bathrooms
Lack of reception area means you get key from bar & check out at bar
Food in restaurant was very nice for dinner but breakfast was disappointing

My husband and I booked a premium room last minute through booking.com at approx. 5pm on the Friday. We booked that Friday night and Saturday night, printed out our confirmation and excitedly set out for a lovely weekend away.

We arrived at just gone 9pm tired and looking forward to getting settled in our premium room only to be told at the bar that there was no room available, despite having our printed confirmation. We were then told the only option they could offer was to go and stay at their sister pub, The Kings Head Inn in Bledlington, a good 15-20 minute drive away for the Friday night and return to stay in a different cheaper (thus not as fancy or nice) room at a 'reduced rate' of £100 instead of £120 at The Swan for the Saturday night.

As we had no other place to stay we reluctantly agreed and set off to The Kings Head Inn. The room there was adequate, but not as nearly as nice as the one we had booked. We also had an awful nights sleep there as they kept cockerels on site(!), which started crowing at 4am! They also tried to charge us £95 for the room which if we had booked ourselves we would have booked through the booking.com website and been charged £85.

We returned to The Swan hoping for a better night sleep. The room we were given was perfectly nice and comfortable, just not as spacious or luxurious as we had booked. We slept better and the breakfast was nice enough, hence the two stars on this review. However when we checked out the lady we dealt with attempted to charge us £120 for the room and seemed rather irritated when we insisted we pay the £100 quoted by her colleague. Even at the rate of £100 we felt it wasn't a good deal as that would have been the rate we would have paid on booking.com if we had booked that room, so in all reality we didn't get any sort of discount or recompense for the inconvenience.

Overall it did mar our weekend away. We would warn travellers to double check their bookings before travelling to The Swan!
