This is a favourite destination for Sunday lunch - serving perfectly cooked beef and Yorkshire pudding - the Swan is consistently good, and has the feel of a proper pub, albeit quite a 'posh' one - would Nancy Mitford adorn a common pub's walls? The menu is fairly simple, but the food is of a very high quality. Of course its perfect location and tranquility are considerable factors towards one's enjoyment of the place; however, even putting those aside, this is still a great pub with a wonderful atmosphere.

Well....I was surprised the other day when I was reminded that I have been staying at this amazing pub for almost two years, off and on, due to business in Witney (don't want you to think this lad has become all decadent) staying in what the press now refer to as "the poshest pub in Britain". This title was given following a visit from the PM and the French President and whilst I am sure it has brought in more visitors it hides a really important factor.

This place is charming, the staff are excellent and always willing to help, actually they have made this a "home away from home" for me, the food is top notch and the beers are as good as in my local, if not better (please do not tell my landlord!)

Following my other review the pub opened a further 5 rooms (11 in total) and these are even better than the others, all decorated to a great "shabby chic" style and with the care and attention that is always to be found in Archie and Nicola's establishments (Nicola has a great eye for design that I know my vintage loving Wife would really like).

Now run by Daniel and Anca with a very strong kitchen and restaurant team plus the immutable Dee this place has not lost any of its friendly atmosphere and excellent service following expansion, to be honest they could have 100's of rooms and 1000's of visitors and they would always make you feel like your individual comfort and happiness were their number one priority.

A job well done every time with real style and care thanks to all of you x

Stayed her for a couple of nights on a weekend break from London and had a great time. The location is great and the pub itself was lovely and we enjoyed a couple of very well cooked and presented meals, along with a good selection of beers and wines. The staff were very friendly and seemed to really take pride in their work and the place, as they should. We did a couple of lovely walks around the area and ventured to a few places nearby like Burford just to get out and about. The only issues we had were that we stayed not in the ye olde pub but the refurbished building across the road. It had clearly just been finished and was a bit rough around the edges...including a bathroom window next to the front door with a completely transparent curtain! Lucky we got that fixed quick smart. I expect after a bit of use those rooms are now fine but check beforehand which room you'll be in if you have a preference. Also the breakfast left a little to be desired and seemed like a little bit of a reluctant add-on. To me breakfast in this context is often the most important thing so a bit more effort on that front would be better. But again, not really a big deal. All in all we enjoyed the stay and would definitely go back.

Room Tip: If you want to stay in the ye olde pub just check beforehand, otherwise you could end up at the hous...

We spent three nights at the Swan and really enjoyed our stay. Everyone was welcoming and the atmosphere in the bar and restaurant was cheerful and relaxed. We had a very pleasant and comfortable ground floor room (the Forge) overlooking a meadow and woke each morning to birdsong. Breakfast was substantial and well cooked, dinner was good with an excellent choice and was served in a comfortably unflappable way. I hope we'll be back.

The Swan Inn has recently been refurbished to a high standard. The rooms are tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The location is absolutely stunning, with beautiful scenery and plenty of walks on your door step. The staff are friendly and attentive. We ate in the hotel both nights, and the food was very good, if a little over-priced. The breakfasts were not so good - best option is a Full English, as salmon and scrambled eggs and porridge were a bit disappointing.

We had stayed at the Swan a few years ago and had since returned a couple of times for an excellent pub lunch. On a visit there last autumn I enquired about the possibility of holding my 60th birthday celebration there. The staff were very helpful about all the arrangements and very flexible. We booked rooms for the family knowing that we were in for a spoiling week-end and we were not disappointed. The rooms are most attractive and very comfortable. We enjoyed a delightful evening meal in the bar on the Friday evening - something on the menu to suit everybody and all very attractively presented. we knew breakfast was going to be good and it didn't disappoint.
On the day of the party some of the guests arrived in time for a walk along the delightful Windrush valley into Burford, then, with appetite well whetted, we were treated to an excellent lunch...for over 60 people, all seemingly with the minimum of fuss and without too much disruption to their normal business (we started lunch at 2.30p.m.). The setting, of course, is delightful and the hens in the garden were a great attraction for the children, one person remarking that she hadn't expected to come to a hen party as well as a birthday celebration! I cannot thank the staff warmly enough - all were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble...indeed many are planning to go back there for another visit.

While getting to the Swan Inn may be difficult, it is absolutely worth it. The drive is beautiful and the surrounding area is scenic and a true slice of England. The food is all fresh and locally sourced. My roast chicken breast was moist and well seasoned, while my friend went with the pasta and olives-- maybe one of our best meals during the trip to London. Definetly check out the wine list!
