“Enjoyable Break”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

We arrived at the Swan around six in the evening, tired from a hectic day and frustrated from sitting in traffic for part of the journey. The atmosphere at the pub immediately made us feel relaxed and welcome. Friendly staff showed us to our recently refurbished room across the road. The decor was beautiful. Shabby chic with lovely touches such as beautiful lamps and luxurious cushions and toiletries . It was a sunny evening and views from our windows were stunning. We had a good view of the river from the front window and the pub and fields with sheep from the bathroom window.

After changing we ordered a drink from the bar and went to sit in the pub garden. There were lots of locals with their well behaved dogs and bantams free range which were very entertaining. It was lovely to soak up the evening sunshine and to know there was a table waiting for us in the restaurant. The food was excellent especially our steaks which were cooked perfectly. Wine was amazing too and we only wish we could have made room for a dessert. A good reason for a return visit.

Slept well in the comfortable bed and made use of the tea making facility. After a long walk around the village we built up a good appetite for breakfast, which was freshly cooked to order and delicious.

The staff really make this pub special and go out of their way to be friendly and helpful.

Will definitely stay at The Swan again. Now my husband wants to move to Swinbrook!

Room Tip: The newly refurbished rooms across the road are excellent. One of the larger downstairs rooms has a...

While our stay at the inn was wonderful, the highlights were the meals (dinner in particular) and the proximity to Asthall, home of the Mitford girls, just down the road. Our room in the new cottage across the country lane had a lovely view of the meadows and stream running next to the property. Rooms are well furnished in a country style with excellent refreshments in room. Would recommend room with meals for excellent value.

After visiting Bleinham Palace for the day we visited The Swan Inn for the night with relatives. Our rooms were lovely and comfortable. We had dinner in the restaurant which was well presented. Breakfast was plentiful. The staff were very helpful and polite.

Wonderful stay, beautiful area, staff very cheerful and helpful. Evening meal excellent, breakfast not so good, rather over done but generally very comfortable with bonus of the Mitford girls photographs and history. Would stay again, Burford is lovely with a fantastic garden centre/ high end interior store, well worth a visit.

This is a favourite destination for Sunday lunch - serving perfectly cooked beef and Yorkshire pudding - the Swan is consistently good, and has the feel of a proper pub, albeit quite a 'posh' one - would Nancy Mitford adorn a common pub's walls? The menu is fairly simple, but the food is of a very high quality. Of course its perfect location and tranquility are considerable factors towards one's enjoyment of the place; however, even putting those aside, this is still a great pub with a wonderful atmosphere.

Well....I was surprised the other day when I was reminded that I have been staying at this amazing pub for almost two years, off and on, due to business in Witney (don't want you to think this lad has become all decadent) staying in what the press now refer to as "the poshest pub in Britain". This title was given following a visit from the PM and the French President and whilst I am sure it has brought in more visitors it hides a really important factor.

This place is charming, the staff are excellent and always willing to help, actually they have made this a "home away from home" for me, the food is top notch and the beers are as good as in my local, if not better (please do not tell my landlord!)

Following my other review the pub opened a further 5 rooms (11 in total) and these are even better than the others, all decorated to a great "shabby chic" style and with the care and attention that is always to be found in Archie and Nicola's establishments (Nicola has a great eye for design that I know my vintage loving Wife would really like).

Now run by Daniel and Anca with a very strong kitchen and restaurant team plus the immutable Dee this place has not lost any of its friendly atmosphere and excellent service following expansion, to be honest they could have 100's of rooms and 1000's of visitors and they would always make you feel like your individual comfort and happiness were their number one priority.

A job well done every time with real style and care thanks to all of you x

Stayed her for a couple of nights on a weekend break from London and had a great time. The location is great and the pub itself was lovely and we enjoyed a couple of very well cooked and presented meals, along with a good selection of beers and wines. The staff were very friendly and seemed to really take pride in their work and the place, as they should. We did a couple of lovely walks around the area and ventured to a few places nearby like Burford just to get out and about. The only issues we had were that we stayed not in the ye olde pub but the refurbished building across the road. It had clearly just been finished and was a bit rough around the edges...including a bathroom window next to the front door with a completely transparent curtain! Lucky we got that fixed quick smart. I expect after a bit of use those rooms are now fine but check beforehand which room you'll be in if you have a preference. Also the breakfast left a little to be desired and seemed like a little bit of a reluctant add-on. To me breakfast in this context is often the most important thing so a bit more effort on that front would be better. But again, not really a big deal. All in all we enjoyed the stay and would definitely go back.

Room Tip: If you want to stay in the ye olde pub just check beforehand, otherwise you could end up at the hous...
