Stayed at The Bull whilst visiting The Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford 13/14 July. The hotel was excellent. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and the place was spotlessly clean all round. As a nice touch they served breakfast 1/2 an hour early for those of us wanting to leave early in the morning for the airshow. This was a nice touch, and the breakfast was first class. The hotel paid attention to every detail, it was a pleasure to stay here and would certainly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in this area. The bedroom was very quaint, well equipped and well decorated. Didn't eat in the restaurant (apart for breakfast) but the menu looked good and well priced. We will certainly book again next year. Thank you for a really enjoyable stay

We were first time visitors to the Cotswolds and really didn't know what to expect. Reserved two rooms at the Bull - one for our daughters with twin beds and a separate double bed room for us. The girls' room was in a separate annex location out behind the parking lot. It was newer, clean and had a reasonable amount of space for them including a roomy bathroom. The design of the entrance to their location could be improved a bit (it was very utilitarian but the girls didn't care and it was quiet).
Our room was on the first floor at the end of an interesting maze of hallways above the kitchens. Room was quite small and lacked any charm however it was clean, the windows opened and the bathroom was functional. The beds could use a new mattress however it wasn't too bad for a couple of nights.
The breakfast was ample and service attentive. Can't say the same for the woman who checked us in; she was tired and not really interested in doing more than showing us where our rooms were. However the next day, a different woman was helpful in giving us information about where we might go for a walk to the next village.
Great meals just a few doors away at the Highway Inn. Lovely little town and nice area for walking too.

I have read the recent bad review and I would like to add my imput. I was the mother of the groom and I would refute everything that was written in the previous review about the Bull Hotel. We were a wedding party of 36 people and from the moment we arrived we were made very welcome and the service was exemplary. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room was lovely and we could not find fault with anything.
The hotel was unaware that the family members that were located at the top of hotel were elderly. We forgot to advise the hotel of their age and I am sure if we had advised them they would have been located on a lower floor.
The staff waited for us to return from the wedding venue and offered us drinks etc even though it was 1.30am when we finally got back.
We were advised that on the morning after the wedding, breakfast times could be extended for anyone that wanted a lie in.
The hotel had lots of charm and its 400 years old history is apparant thoughout. Its not a 5* hotel its a charming old building and a lovely place to stay.
I would return to this hotel again and would recommend it highly.

The Bull in Burford is full of history and uneven floors! We loved the atmosphere and found the staff friendly and helpful.
The food was excellent so we ate in the restaurant three times. There was a full fish menu alongside the regular menu. The fish platter starter was a meal in itself.
Breakfast cereals were a bit limited but the muesli was home made. There was a huge selection of home made jams and a plate of honey on the comb! I've never seen that in a hotel before.
Our room was rather airless but otherwise comfortable.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel are a bit noisy as the hotel is on the main street of Burford and it...

This ancient Inn is situated on the High Street, but our worries about noise were unfounded. The staff were friendly and very helpful and our room (The Queen Anne room) while not as grand as the name might suggest was one of the most comfortable hotel rooms we've ever stayed in. It was clean, charmingly furnished with a small but perfectly functional bathroom.

We enjoyed sampling most things on the breakfast menu and all were delicious, and ate in the restaurant with friends on the final evening. The menu was well-thought out, and the food totally delicious. If you think you're too full for dessert, I'd recommend trying to squeeze in the sorbets with compotes - refreshing, light and colourful. Everything was beautifully presented.

Any downsides? Stairs if they are a problem for you. The hotel is typical of its age in that there are little steps throughout the ground floor, but there is level access from the outside to the restaurant at the side of the building. The car park is small and quite tight, but there is plenty of parking on the High Street and you can park there overnight free of charge.

Would we stay there again? Most certainly, and have no hesitation in recommending it. A delightful, individual family-run hotel with a very warm welcome.

We booked an evening Seafood meal at The Bull as a Groupon deal, how I wish we hadn't. The start was good, the two waitresses were helpful and attentive. We were shown to our table, and as it was a warm summer evening we elected to have a couple of drinks outside while the table was prepared. My wife's had asked for a Gin and tonic and I had a glass of the house white wine. The G & T was fine, ice cold and delicious. My glass of wine was just the opposite, it was plainly a cheap French plonk and tasted as such.
We enjoyed the warm weather, and were soon called inside and seated at our table. I ordered a bottle of Picpoul to have with our meal, and the starter arrived, which was supposed to be lobster thermidor, but the chef obviously had no idea what a lobster thermidor should be. The meat was very tough, and swamped with what looked like a cream and herb sauce, heavily laden with so much garlic that the taste of lobster, had there actually been one, was undetectable. The salad accompaniment was bland and under-seasoned.
The picpoul was another cheap plonk, although the price was well-up with what other paces would charge, nevertheless it was uninteresting and mediocre, nothing like what a good picpoul should be.
Our main course was a kind of seafood stew... it was huge, far too much to eat, and full of lumps of overcooked fish and shellfish. The worst thing about it was it was full of pinbones, and whilst I accept that any fish dish stands the chance of a few bones getting through this was ridiculous, there were so many I lost count. The best thing about the whole mess was the accompaniment of a generous portion of aioli, which at least added some flavour to what was a nondescript dish. And that was it, we had a couple of unmemorable desserts which were OK but nothing to write home about.
Generally speaking the food was mediocre, badly presented and just a mess... local gastropubs do far better at much lower prices. They need to get themselves a decent chef who understands how to cook, serve and present seafood, because the one who cooked our meal would have been better placed in a burger van.
There was not much ambience in the restaurant, four tables only being occupied.
The waitresses, both of them, were lovely and gave good service, hence we left a tip, the rest left us cold.
We will not be returning, needless to say.

We recently spent a couple of nights at The Bull and our dinner was just as good as the last time, 2 or 3 years ago. Breakfast was excellent with a varied choice of cooked or cold items. Our room was comfortable and quiet. Bathroom showed none of the peculiarities of some other hotels we stayed at on this trip. The Bull even provides parking space in the otherwise crowded town. We shall return!
