Having read previous reviews, we feared the worst before arriving for our "Amazon Local" deal but the overall value was superb and we were made to feel very welcome rather than being treated as second class citizens which is so often the case for special offers such as this. Our room was at the rear of the hotel and nicely quiet. I would advise anyone staying in Burford High Street to seek a room at the back of their hotel. There is a lot of traffic noise at the front but this is not exclusive to the Golden Pheasant Inn. We ate in the restaurant on both nights and the quality and choice of meals were very good. All of the staff were helpful and friendly. Our room was basically furnished but pleasant enough for a 2-night stay. The central heating was erratic but we had hot water when we needed it and the room was well serviced. The on-site car park was enormously valuable!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have less traffic noise as is the case with all Burford inns, hotels etc that flan...

We visited this hotel on 3rd/4th November after signing up for an Amazon local deal in May 2013.

Our first room “Finch” was very small and although recently repainted, the furniture was a mish mash of items you might get at a car boot sale. The bathroom had also been recently refurbished to a reasonable standard this time, however there was just one half used bottle of shower gel left for us and although superficially clean, the pedal bin had clearly not been cleaned for some time as there was dust and water marks on the top and there was a thick layer of dust behind the door. There was also a smell from the toilet.

The room itself had clearly not been cleaned properly for a good while – the television screen had streaks where it had been just wiped over with a damp cloth. There was a layer of dust on all but the tops of the furniture and black mould showing on the window frame. We couldn’t use the white plastic kettle because this too was grubby with black marks. In the very small wardrobe was an iron with the flex just left on the dusty floor instead of being wrapped safely around the iron.

The Amazon deal included an evening meal with wine which thankfully was of a good standard, as was breakfast the following morning. We asked to change rooms and were offered a larger twin "Jay" (rather than the double we had requested) which was “the only one available”. This room was slightly cleaner and of a reasonable size so we took it, however that evening when we returned to the room there was a strange, pungent smell – a bit like plastic burning! There was also a loud thumping noise which clearly came from the kitchen below. I guessed this was a large extractor fan which carried on until about 10.30pm. The radiator in the bathroom did not work but when I asked them to fix it I was told that “the heat from the radiator in the bedroom was sufficient to warm the bathroom also” – utter tosh.

It is a pity that our break was spoiled by issues that could be resolved by a good housekeeper and a half decent handyman. I think the manager of this place is in the wrong job since he seemed to be generally uninterested in our complaints.

Room Tip: I beleive the four poster room was "adequate"

Lovely hotel great room with four poster. But no hot water in the evening and none in the morning. We went to a wedding so couldn't wash before or the next morning. Asked for a discount which we got, although it involved a phone call by the helpful staff to the manager, who didn't use the opportunity to talk to us direct or offer an apology. Otherwise staff were great and top breakfast.

Room Tip: Specify that you want a room with hot water washing facilities

Were given a room at the front of the hotel, over the bar and facing the high street. Very noisy at night and early morning - a lot of heavy traffic goes through Burford en route to Chipping Norton and Stow. Rooms at the back maybe quieter, and I hope cleaner. Our bathroom was dirty with rotten wood around the shower cubicle and missing grouting; the toilet seat also refused to stay up - bad news for men.
The food is okay in an artless manner, with little care or finesse - the tuna steak advertised as being served pink, wasn't, and the salad was drenched with balsamic.
The breakfasts are of the greasy- spoon variety, and so are the tables - sticky and dirty.
It's all a shame really because the staff are very friendly and try hard but somehow fail to deliver a good experience.

Room Tip: Avoid any at the front of the building

We have just returned from a 2 night Amazon Local deal trip . We had lovely time here ,the hotel was the iceing on the cake as Burford is amazing . The food was great and the room was clean and pleasant. I hope that the local council will soon ban the big lorries tho as they spoil the village .Would definitely return to the hotel and recommend it to our friends and family.

Room Tip: Look online Choose a room at the rear.

Due a mistake made by staff taking my booking here I was charged for a room I had made it perfectly clear I did not want and did not use. Management were uncompromising, refusing to acknowledge their mistake and were thoroughly rude throughout.

The worst customer service experience I have ever had. To be avoided.

Got this at a very good rate so wasn't expecting too much of either accommodation or location. Couldn't have been any more wrong. Loved the room at the back of the pub & Burford is possibly my favourite village in UK. Full of beautiful medieval houses & buildings & the Golden Pheasant, like the other pubs round it is full of character & offers a great varied menu at a good price. The best deal of our long holiday
