“Lovely meal in pleasant surroundings”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

We visited for a meal on the way back from a walk around the snowdrops in Sherborne. We stopped by chance, knowing nothing about the place, but enjoyed a very nice meal and thought what a lovely old pub with a good atmosphere.

“Lovely lunch”
Reviewed 9 February 2014

My son and I stopped off here for lunch as we travelled from Witney to Cardiff. We loved the old building. We had a friendly welcome and were shown to a table near the window. The light lunch menu had many inviting choices. I had a warm salad with Clonakilty Black Pudding, pancetta and poached egg which was delicious (being Irish I was delighted to find such a favourite!). My son had bangers and mash, which he thoroughly enjoyed. We shared an Eton mess- style dessert with berry compote, marshmallows and honey which was light and tasty. We thought the price was reasonable for the quality of the food we had.

The pub was warm and inviting and clearly the other few customers were locals who were enjoying a drink after walking their dogs.

All in all we were well impressed and would certainly call in again.

“Sunday Lunch as it should be”
Reviewed 27 January 2014

Well the SO and I were returning from a weekend in Oxford on a Sunday lunchtime. The weather was appalling and we were both hungry. There on the side of the road was the Inn. The SO had spotted it on the way down and said how nice it looked. So we turned in and made our way to the bar. Classic home counties clientèle. Braying beige cardies and russet faces, enjoying jokes at others expense. However lovely fire roaring and the SO bagged the table next to it. Was there beef on the menu, yes there was and sirloin to boot. Ordered and settled on the settle we waited. within five minutes the cutlery was on the table and within less than ten we had our luncheon. And what a meal we had, greedy beggars that we are. Two thick slices of rare sirloin, a golden crispy yorkie and more veggies and gravy. The roasties were absolutely superb, crispy on the outside and fluffy in doors. It was great. The service was friendly and attentive without being oleaginous. If you're passing on a Sunday call in and enjoy.

“Excellent Food, Service and an Honest Welcome!”
Reviewed 11 December 2013

Matthew Sharp (of The Dorchester and the Ritz in London, Le George V in Paris, the Mandarin Hotel Group in Jakarta, Hong Kong and Manila and the Michelin starred Talbooth in Essex) has created an excellent menu which perfectly compliments the season in which you visit and underpins all that is great about quality British/Continental food. An excellent fish menu compliments informal lite bites and the more fulsome main menu. Game is sourced locally from the Barrington Estate.

The venue has been in his family for over 20 years which shows real didication to the location and the customer. The Inn is situated a few miles West of Burford. It makes for a great place to eat if you wish to have 'Burford' quality but without the hustle and bustle of tourists; and without the preteniousness of other 'gastro pubs' in the area where customers seem to be vetted by the car they drive, where money clearly does not buy class!

Informal bar dining, or slightly more formal dining area, a perfect all-rounder which caters for families, couples, groups or singletons!

I've dined here numerous times - the superb Bubble and Squeak is, in my humble opinion, le plat de résistance.
