“Heythorp Park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2013

Stayed a saturday night. Used it to visit my daughter who came to stay with me. We had been upgraded to the Plazza. Service was good and efficient. Food was good. Our room overlooked the courtyard, so you felt overlooked, but it wasn't a problem. The room and bathroom were of a good size and comfortable. Didn't use ny of the facilities, as we used it as a base. Overall we enjoyed our visit. The only downside was the bar was a little pricey!

This is the second time I have stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Chipping Norton.

The hotel is located in beautiful grounds next to (or part of?) the Heythrop park hotel.
The building itself is lovely with very nice decor.
Yes there is a small walk from the carpark to the hotel which is no big issue although people seem to make out that it is...? Leave your luggage at the car and ask for help, or park outside the building, dump your luggage and then park.

Check in was straight forward and easy. Both receptionists I had the pleasure of talking to we're very helpful, efficient and knowledgable.

On this particular stay I didn't eat in the hotel but did have a drink in the bar. Service was good, prices are average for a hotel bar. The Atmosphere lacked slightly although there were quite a few people in the bar.
I did find it quite cold in the bar and throughout the hotel, maybe the aircon was a little high for my liking but you can't please everyone.

The room itself was small but perfectly adequate for mine and my girlfriends one night stay. The bed was super comfy as we're the pillows. Could've slept all day! The shower was awesome, powerful and I love rainfall type showers.

We had a walk around the grounds which is definitely worth doing, especially when the weather is good. It's very tranquil, romantic and picturesque.

We had tea in chipping norton which is apparently £15 in a taxi although only a ten min drive so we decided to drive and go to a pub called the Blur Boar. Lovely village, easy to find, great food at a reasonable cost and good atmosphere.
The next day we went to Woodstock, which again, is a lovely little village to walk around. Luckily, the day we went they were having a small music festival (Woodstock fest) which we stayed at for a couple of hours and loved it. Friendly folk.

Anyway, would I stay at the Crowne Plaza if visiting the area again? Definitely. Didn't have a problem worth mentioning.

I booked this the night before my husbands birthday for us and our five kids. Got great rate for 2 rooms that slept 4 and panicked that the place would be awful. Unfounded. Hotel new and well equipped. Room fab for travelling with kids. Amazing grounds, golf course, pool, adventure playground with kid friendly zip wire, bar with food or classy restaurant. Central courtyard (suntrap) with fountains for peace and quiet. Activities for kids (movie with popcorn at 7pm) plus loads more. Rate included bfast for all of us which is usually a massive expensive in itself. Very happy with my bargain luxury night away.

We went there for a Saturday night out of London. The location is fantastic, the grounds splendid and Woodstock and surrounding towns were great too. There is a golf course which I think is perhaps the priority of the place.

Room - First room was more like a prison cell - no bath - just enough room to walk round the bed and a small window that didn’t let enough light in to fill the room. So, having been promised a King bed and bath (by 3rd party who I booked through) they agreed to move us to a different 'executive room' which was a lot better though without King bed and the bed itself was soft to the point my wife woke in the morning with a rough back

Pool/Sauna - There is a Sauna, Steamroom and Pool (no Jacuzzi) and not in a particularly lovely setting. Its fine for 30 mins but nothing special so I wouldn’t go if your thinking of lounging around a lovely pool for an afternoon in your robe enjoying light snacks. We went once and didn’t even go back

Spa - Fully booked for treatments 3 days before and despite asking for a phonecall for cancelations, when an extra therapist was added we were not contacted - so can't comment on the treatment.

Food - We ate in two lovely local pubs and if you were to stay here I suggest this is a good plan

Bar - We came back from dinner and planned to have a nightcap in the bar but it was so cold and lifeless that I left without a drink - not like me ;)

Breakfast - The worst buffet breakfast ever I think - everything overcooked, service slow (coffee turns up 30 mins late as we are leaving) etc. Generally a very cheap badly cooked fry, cereal, not nice looking fruit and cheap concentrate juices

One last note: There are multiple companies operating in Heythrop park. We were told mixed stories but apparently Golf, Spa, Heythrop Park and Crown Plaza HP are all separate so the SPA and golf are a good 10 minute walk from the CP Hotel.

We will definitely never stay in this hotel again albeit the area around Blenheim/Woodstock is lovely.

We did not get off to a good start here. On check-in we were told our rate did not include breakfast. Luckily we were able to find an email confirmation to prove that it did. We would describe our room as very small though with a decent shower. The bed was, we thought, just a standard double and the pillows we both found very uncomfortable. Although the room had curtains all down one side where you would expect a window to be there was just a wall and a small doorway to a balcony overlooking a car park. In-room wi-fi was available and as loyalty-scheme members this was free; if not it was expensive. It was the very fiddly and annoying type where you have to enter long codes of numbers to ‘sign-in’ several times a day. Good points: this hotel is in very large and attractive grounds and the on-site gym (with Sky Sports in a bar area) and pool are good. I suggest that a car is needed to get anywhere as it’s about 10-15 minutes drive from Chipping Norton itself and we were told a taxi to the town centre was about £15. It’s the first time we visited the Cotswolds and we had a great weekend. Many pretty villages, gardens, etc. are within 30-40 minutes drive.

We arrived at the main reception to be told we needed to go further up the drive to the Manor House part of the hotel. We had an awesome room. Breakfast was pretty good as was service. The part we stayed in is being refurbished, but we loved the room how it was!
